VUELTA A ESPAÑA 2001
After the previous edtition, in that Vuelta counted for the second time on the frightful Angliru and three stages that served to solve the general, in the 2001 stages in Asturias were reduced to two: Gijón, where Zabel won, and Los Lagos, where Mercado was the first.
STAGE 4
Vuelta arrives at Asturias from Leon to finalize in Gijón. Not yet concrete data about the route are known. This end is a classic one in Vuelta as could be seen in the stage history
STAGE 5
The stage leaves Gijón to go towards Pola de Siero and to return to the coast at Villaviciosa, following the coast until Caravia, point where starts the hardness of the stage with the ports of El Fito and Los Lagos, that are raised by fourteenth time as it could be seen in the stage history. Also are climbed the third category ports of El infanzón, La Madera and La Campa.
