The Scott LaFaro Memorial Award is presented by Geneva High School, Scott's alma mater, to one of its graduating students who exemplifies the qualities that LaFaro himself exhibited during his high school career. These qualities are demonstrated by participation in, dedication to, and high achievement, in all phases of the music program at Geneva High. Additionally, the recipient has met academic and attendance requirements and has exhibited consideration for his or her fellow students.
The Award is an especially fitting tribute because Scott's four years at Geneva High (1950 -- 1954) were instrumental to his development as a musician. It is wonderful to know that Scott's alma mater continues to maintain a quality and nurturing music program, and that Geneva continues to remember and pay tribute to one of its favorite sons.
In June 2007, Mr. Ryan Kincaid became the twenty-ninth recipient of the Scott LaFaro Memorial Ward. Each year family and friends of Scott set new goals to increase sponsorship of the Award, the purpose of which continues to be to help young people pursue careers in music. Please join the LaFaro family, fellow Geneva High School alumni, friends and jazz lovers from around the world in supporting this effort with your donation.
If you would like to make a contribution, which is tax-deductible, please mail your personal check or postal money order, made out to the order of the Scott LaFaro Memorial Award, to the following postal address:
