The following hadith qudsi is recorded in Sahih Al-Bukhari , the most widely accepted and most authoritative collection of ahadith.
A certain man, who had committed grievous sins, was dying and there was no hope that he might survive. He called his family to his bedside and gave them the following instructions: ‘When I die, gather together a great load of firewood and light a fire. Place my body on the fire and when all the flesh has been burned away and the fire has burnt my bones, then take what remains of them and grind them into dust. Then, upon a windy day, scatter the ashes across the ocean.' When the man died they did as he had asked.
On the Day of Judgment, when the veil between heaven and earth is torn asunder and all creatures, resurrected, God gathered the sinner in and resurrected him. God asked the man: ‘Why did you do that?' The man replied: ‘Out of fear of You.' And so God will forgive him.
