Klaatu - Magentalane (1981)

Very much in the vein of Endangered Species, Magentalane is a collection of pop sounding songs from a band that once produced some of the most progressive music Canada has ever heard.

Now that the whole media backlash to the Beatles Rumor is finally starting to blow over, I had high hopes for this album to be a return to form for the band that produced such classic album's as Hope, 3:47 EST and Sir Army Suit. Sadly, such is not the case.

Still, something positive can be taken from this. It is a new Klaatu album that I personally didn't expect to see, and an enjoyable listen. Cuts like At The End of The Rainbow and Magentalane are potential singles, and could yeild Klaatu their first bonafide chart hit's, something that their record company seems to be demanding.

Personally speaking, I still consider Hope to be the highlight of Klaatu's recording's, and a "Great Album". Magentalane is good, certainly an enjoyable listen for the fan, and will probably find it's way into every Klaatu fans collection, but it isn't as innovative or ground breaking as the first three albums.
