CSA T20 Challenge may not be the most followed T20 competition, but it certainly produces some cracking contests. We are still pretty early in the 2022 edition of the tournament and have already seen some matches going right down the wire. All teams are slowly and steadily getting into the groove and are set to produce some exciting cricket up next.
The next match in the tournament is to be played between Warriors and Dolphins, two of the oldest clubs in South Africa's domestic cricket, in a match that is of massive importance for both these sides. The match is to be played at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth.
Warriors started off their campaign in a fantastic manner, posting a narrow win over Titans, but failed to sustain the momentum as they stumbled in their subsequent match against the Western Province. The Warriors are still sitting pretty in the tournament and a win here in this match will put them in a very good position for the remainder of the tournament.
Currently on the points table, the Warriors are placed at the sixth spot with one win and one loss from their two matches. They would have been at the third spot had their net run rate been better but with a poor net run rate of -0.433, they are languishing in the bottom half. Not only will they want to gather four points in this upcoming match, they would also want to win big and improve their net run rate, which could prove to be a crucial factor, if things get tight.
In their last match, which was against the Western Province, the Warriors were completely outplayed as they lost the match by seven wickets with Western Province having 17 balls to spare. The Warriors were dismal in all three departments of the game and will need to show massive improvement against a potent side like Dolphins.
The Warriors do have a bit dearth of experience in their playing eleven, but the way the likes of Wihan Lubbe and Mthiwekhaya Nabe have contributed thus far has been commendable. Lubbe already has a couple of consecutive half centuries in two matches and Nabe has picked up four wickets, though they have come at a slightly higher economy rate.
On paper, the Warriors lack experience but have talent available right throughout. Their experienced players will hold the key in the upcoming match and if they get enough support from the other players in the team, the Warriors would find themselves in a very good position to get a win here.
Matthew Breetzke, Sinethemba Qeshile, Tristan Stubbs, DS Rosier, Lesiba Ngoepe, Wihan Lubbe, JJT Smuts, Alindile Mhletywa, Mthiwekhaya Nabe, Stefan Tait, Lizo Makosi.
Just like the Warriors, the Dolphins have produced a terrific performance in the tournament followed by an off-day. They started off their campaign with a towering win over the Knights first-up but failed to sustain the momentum as they suffered a narrow loss by eight runs in their subsequent encounter, which was against the Lions.
Currently on the points table, the Dolphins are placed at the top of the ladder with one win and one loss. However, thanks to their reasonably big win over the Knights, they still have a pretty good net run rate of 0.216, which is keeping them in the top half of the points table.
Given the side that the Dolphins have on paper, it was really surprising to see them go down against the Lions in a way they did. Their bowlers did a tremendous job of keeping the Lions to a very manageable total of 156 with Jason Smith picking up 3 for 16. However, their batsmen were far from the best as they could muster only 148 runs in their reply.
On paper, the Dolphins have a terrific unit that has experience available right from top to bottom. Although the youngsters showed their mettle in the previous match, the experienced players failed to step up their game. The Dolphins would need a complete efford from their side in this upcoming match and if they are able to do that, they would be in an excellent position to finish this match as the happier of the two sides.
Grant Roelofsen, David Miller, Khaya Zondo, Jason Smith, Prenelan Subrayen, Ruan de Swardt, Bryce Parsons, Andile Phehlukwayo, Ottneil Baartman, D Dupavillon, Thando Ntini.

Both these sides currently have one win each to their name and a winner of this match will get ahead in the pecking order. As of now, only the net run rate separates the two sides and it is going to change after the end of this match. Both sides are coming off losses in their respective last matches and will be putting their best foot forward in this upcoming contest. Considering the on-paper combinations of the two sides, the Dolphins appear ahead. For that reason and the other ones stated above, betting on a Dolphins' win should be the way to go here.
