The last season of the CSA T20 Challenge was a cracker jack of a tournament and this one is expected to be nothing different. The best two sides and the finalists of the last season - the Lions and the Dolphins are set to lock horns with each other in what is going to be an important match for both these sides.
Lions and Dolphins are coming off contrasting results in their last respective matches and a win here will be of massive importance for both these sides, albeit for different reasons. The match between the two sides is to be played at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth.
Dolphins couldn't have gotten off to a better start to the tournament and with the position they are in at the moment, they will be brimming with confidence. Another win here in this match will push them to the top of the table, provided they are able to win big enough to push their net run rate beyond that of the Western Province.
As it currently stands, Dolphins are placed at the second spot with four points to their name coupled with a net run rate of +0.822. Their win over the Knights was good more because of the manner they posted the win. Knights are by no means an easy side to get past and to outclass them in all three departments of the game is certainly a commendable job.
Bowling first on a surface that didn't have a lot for the bowlers, the Dolphins' bowlers were right on the money. They managed to keep the Knights to a total of just 128 runs thereby by setting up the match beautifully for the batsmen. The batsmen didn't disappoint as the Dolphins completed their chase with plenty of resources available.
On paper, the Dolphins are a side loaded with experience right from top to bottom. The likes of Keegan Petersen, Andile Phehlukwayo, David Miller, Khaya Zondo, and Prenelan Subrayen have plenty of experience up their sleeve. It proved to be a pretty nifty component in the previous match and is likely to be an important factor in this upcoming match as well. If their experienced players are able to produce what they are capable of, the Lions will have their work cut out in this upcoming fixture.
Keegan Petersen, Grant Roelofsen, Andile Phehlukwayo, David Miller, Khaya Zondo, Jason Smith, Bryce Parsons, Ruan de Swardt, Prenelan Subrayen, D Dupavillon, Odirile Modimokoane.
The Lions will certainly be disappointed with the way they have started their campaign, but they won't be too worried, yet. These are early days in the tournament and a win here will bring them back among the top-four sides of the tournament.
As it currently stands, however, the Lions are placed at the sixth spot with zero points and a terrible net run rate of -0.550. They are coming off a loss in a match that they should have won. The Lions are one of the pre-tournament favorites and will be desperate to get back to the winning ways when they take on the Dolphins in this upcoming contest.
Against the North West Dragons, the Lions did an excellent job with the ball before their batsmen bottled the chase. Barring a lone fighting knock by Mitchell van Buuren, who scored 65 off 56 deliveries, none of the batsmen looked in control against the Dragons. Also, the fact that Reeza Hendricks was dismissed on his first delivery didn't help the Lions' cause.
On paper, the Lions have a decent side with an excellent balance between batting and bowling. The presence of Dominic Hendricks and Reeza Hendricks at the top adds calmness and the knock by van Buuren in the previous match would certainly inspire confidence going into the upcoming matches. It is undoubtedly the bowling where the Lions' strength lies. The likes of Sisanda Magala, Codi Yusuf, and Bjorn Fortuin are experienced campaigners, and dealing with them is not going to be easy. If the batsmen are able to play their part, the Lions would certainly be a very difficult side to beat, especially with the bowling attack they have.
Joshua Richards, Reeza Hendricks, Shane Dadswell, Mitchell Van Buuren, Dominic Hendricks, Ruan Haasbroek, SSB Magala, Bjorn Fortuin, Malusi Siboto, Codi yusuf, Tshepo Ntuli.

The rivalry between the Lions and the Dolphins is one of the most followed rivalries in South Africa's domestic circuit and all eyes will be on this match for different reasons. Dolphins have an opportunity to climb to the top of the ladder with a win here, but that would push the Lions to the bottom of the table and they will certainly want to avoid that. Comparing the two sides on the basis of form, the Dolphins clearly seem ahead. While the Lions have a decent side, the Dolphins have a slightly better-balanced side on paper. For that reason and the others stated above, betting on a Dolphins' win should be the way to go here.
