Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) are going to be playing their opening match of IPL 2022 against each other. Both teams have struggled in the recent seasons of the Indian Premier League and would certainly be hoping that the mega-auction works in their favor.
At first glance, it appears as if SRH has more work to do to try and get a quality playing eleven on the park. Most of the best IPL betting sites seem to agree with this assessment as well since the odds are priced with the Rajasthan Royals being the favorites.
There are so many new combinations and matchups to explore that we should have plenty of betting opportunities.
Match prediction and IPL betting tips for SRH vs RR IPL 2022. The match is going to be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
SRH is probably the only IPL team that has all of its players available for selection from the very first match. SRH’s team management got a lot of flack after the auction after seemingly making some bizarre moves and Simon Katich also left the management since his auction strategy was not followed.
Still, we think they have put together a very decent lineup.
Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi, Kane Williamson, and Nicholas Pooran should form the top-4 for SRH. This is a very good batting lineup with power and T20 expertise. Rahul Tripathi is one of the more underrated players but he seems to make himself an invaluable member of an IPL playing eleven year after year.
The middle-order has Abdul Samad, Washington Sundar, and Romario Shepherd.
We are not sure Samad and Sundar have done enough to really be considered first-class middle-order batters at the IPL level but Romario Shepherd is our pick for one of the canniest picks in this IPL auction.
Shepherd adds a genuine six-hitting option and a very good death bowler to the lineup.
SRH also has Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi, and Bhuvenshwar Kumar to give themselves a pretty decent fast-bowling attack. The spin bowling options are a bit thin and it is likely that Shreyas Gopal plays the first match.

Rajasthan Royals have all their players available for selection for this match as well. The Royals have decided to go in for a lot of promising youngsters, a strategy that has paid dividends for the Delhi Capitals in the past.
They have Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal as their opening duo. These are two extremely talented batsmen that have done well in the IPL in the past. The question as bettors that you need to ask is whether teams would have worked them out or would the players have improved between seasons?
With Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, and possibly Shimron Hetmyer in the lineup, Rajasthan Royals certainly have a stronger batting lineup. The conditions in Pune, though, could be a bit spin-friendly and just test their power hitters a bit.
That brings us to their big advantage in this contest against SRH. Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin should both be in the playing eleven giving the Royals a fantastic couple of spin-bowling options.
The pace bowling lineup should feature Nathan Coulter-Nile, Trent Boult, and Prasidh Krishna. All in all, this is a very well-balanced lineup that has all bases covered.

The team that wins the toss could actually choose to bat first in Pune. There is not much dew expected and spin could play a bigger role as the match goes on. Overall, though, the toss is expected to be less important at this venue (at least for the first few matches).

There is no rain expected on match day and dew is not as much of a problem at this venue. The pitch is a bit slower in nature than in Mumbai and the red soil used generally tends to help the spinners a bit more. Of course, for the first few matches, the pitch should have been rolled well and offer up a good batting surface. The average batting score at this venue is closer to 170. That should be quite competitive.

SRH is a bit undervalued in terms of the rates being offered, however, it does have a number of unknowns that we are a bit wary of. Rajasthan Royals certainly seem to have a better playing eleven on paper.

Padikkal has been one of the most impressive young batsmen to have emerged in Indian cricket over the last couple of years. He bats at the top of the order, is more powerful than before, and is quite good against the spin as well. We like the Over/Under line available to bet on him right now.
Rahul Tripathi is another extremely underrated player that we think is always a smart player to bet on. The Over/Under line on him is quite low considering his past record as well as the fact that he will most likely bat in the top-3.
This is a complete punt and a very high-risk bet. You should only put the money you are willing to lose on such a market. Sometimes, though, such bets can pay off big time and at 21x returns, even a small punt will yield massive returns. Romari Shepherd hits massive sixes and is a very competent batter.
