The two newest teams of the Indian Premier League, the Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants, are going to be playing their first-ever match against each other. Both teams had been given the chance to sign up some of the big-name players prior to the auction in order to try and get on an even footing with the others.
As a result, they have also some very strong squads to choose from. From a betting perspective, the greater the number of unknowns, the more are the chances of making mistakes. The Gujarat Titans suffered a bit of a blow to their strategy as Jason Roy pulled out of IPL 2022. They have got in Rahmanullah Gurbaz as a replacement and that is a pretty sound choice made by the management. Gurbaz has done very well in T10 tournaments as well as the PSL in the past. He is certainly capable of getting the fast starts needed.
Shubman Gill will partner Gurbaz forming a strong opening partnership but the rest of the lineup is not too convincing. Wriddhiman Saha, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, and Rahul Tewatia are all likely to find a place in the top-7. The other two will be Hardik Pandya (returning from injury) and Matthew Wade.
We know what Pandya has done in the past but how will not having played top-class cricket for so long affect him? There is no way we are going to bet on him until we see what he can do. Also, Wade seems to have revitalized himself as a lower-order hitter but his record in India is very poor.
The Gujarat Titans are not a batting lineup that we trust right now.
The bowling attack is where things start to get a bit more interesting. Rashid Khan, Lockie Ferguson, Mohammad Shami, and maybe Varun Aaron could find a place. We have no indication whether Hardik Pandya will bowl in IPL 2022 but we would not count it out.
The fact that Hardik Pandya is going to be captaining a team for the first time in his career is also something you must consider since his tactics will drive the direction of the entire team.

The Lucknow Super Giants have a number of players missing from their squad for the first three matches. Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, and Marcus Stoinis are going to be busy with international engagements while Mark Wood has been ruled out due to injury.
The positive is that Quinton de Kock is expected to be available for selection for the first match. he and KL Rahul will form a dangerous pair opening the batting. We think the Wankhede is going to suit Rahul's style of batting and expect another massive IPL from him. Quinton de Kock played for the Mumbai Indian for a long time and will know exactly what to expect from the Wankhede as well.
Evin Lewis could bat at number three for this match followed by Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, and possibly K Gowtham. Once again, this batting lineup is far from convincing but it does have a lot of potential.
Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, and Andrew Tye will all be in the playing eleven. Add Krunal Pandya and you have four bowlers that can be relied on. We think, depending on the surface, the Lucknow Super Giants could gamble with playing an extra batsman or may add another pacer to their ranks.
LSG is weakened by not having a number of players available and a lot will depend on KL Rahul up until that time.

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. This is an even match where the dew will play a role. Traditionally, chasing teams have had a big advantage at the Wankhede so consider that while placing your bets.

The weather conditions in Mumbai are very good for cricket. There is no rain predicted and we should have no interruptions. The pitch should be flat and good for batting with small boundaries that can be a magnet for sixes being hit. The dew could make conditions even better to bat on in the second inning and end up favoring the chasing team.
A high-scoring match with a lot of sixes is likely.

We are going to bet on the Gujarat Titans to win this match. They are the slight underdogs going into the contest but we think having someone like Shubman at the top of the order is going to be a huge advantage. Both teams have a batting lineup that is a bit vulnerable but the Gujarat Titans just seem to have that little bit of depth and flexibility to give them the edge.

If there is ever a player that could light up IPL 2022 then it is KL Rahul. He is batting in conditions that will really suit him and he could be an Orange Cap contender once more. We think a small bet to start out on him is a good idea.
Another player very similar to KL Rahul in his style of playing. Gill has been a bit under pressure because of his strike rate but his consistency at the top of the order is unquestionable. A small bet on Gill to get more than 24.5 runs in this match is recommended as well.
If there is a batsman that has completely reinvented his style of playing then that is Matthew Wade. He prefers opening but has adapted to life in the middle quite nicely and is now playing the finisher's role consistently. We think he is going to clear the boundary at least once even if he plays just a few deliveries.
