It's all happening in the Vitality T20 Blast and things are certainly getting exciting as we are progressing towards the playoffs. The competition is getting more and more tight at the top of the ladder in both the groups and we are in for a cracker of a finish in the league stage.
Up next in the North Group, Northamptonshire are set to take on Birmingham Bears in a top-drawer contest. The two sides are placed neck and neck on the points table and the result of this match might well govern the occupants of a knockout spot in the time to come. The match between the two sides is to be played at the County Cricket Ground, Northampton on Wednesday, 22nd July 2022.
Northamptonshire are coming off an unanticipated loss at the hands of Derbyshire in a high-scoring match that eventually turned out to be a rather one-sided encounter. Despite the loss, the Northants are sitting at a decent spot on the ladder with 14 points to their name in 11 matches but scoring a win here in this match will be of massive importance. A win here would push them back into the top two, at least in the interim, but a loss now would allow other teams with an opportunity to displace them from the top-four. We expect Northamptonshire to come out all guns blazing.

Once touted to be a test playing side, Birmingham Bears have well and truly rose up the ranks in this competition. They are holding multiple records in the competition this season and would want to settle for nothing less than a title win. For that to happen, though, they will first need to get to the knockouts and the result of this upcoming match would play a massive role in their journey going forward.
As it currently stands on the points table, the Bears have 12 points to their name with a net run-rate of 0.726, which just shows how dominant they have been. They have won six and lost four so far. Another win here will push them to the second spot on the ladder, largely because of their excellent net run rate, and that is exactly what they will be aiming for. They have a decent side on-paper and getting past them could be a massive challenge, even for the high-flying Northants.

Coincidentally, both these sides are coming off losses at the hands of Derbyshire in their respective matches and would want to bounce back to winning ways. This is a battle of staying ahead on the points table and the team that wins this match will get ahead in the pecking order as far as progressing to the next round is concerned. Comparing the two sides on form, there's nothing to pick between the two. Recently, however, the Bears have been a bit inconsistent and that might give Northants a bit of opening. Besides, playing at home should add to the advantage for the Northants. For all those reasons and for the ones stated above, we will be placing our bets on a Northamptonshire win and so should you.
