Shikhar Dhawan is in the form of his life and will be batting with no scoreboard pressure. He could get a decent score once more.
DC is facing a small total and it is going to want to keep its wickets in hand. That would mean avoiding unnecessary risks and playing at a moderate pace.

Delhi Capitals has won two out of the three matches it has played in IPL 2021 so far, the same as the Mumbai Indians, against whom it will be playing this match. A strong start to the season has meant that both teams sit in the top half of the IPL table and will see this match as one of the more important ones of the season.
There is a traditional Delhi-Mumbai rivalry across all spheres of life that makes this contest interesting as well.
Despite the success that both teams have had, there have been a few weaknesses that have been apparent. The team that exploits the other’s weaknesses better in this match is going to come out trumps. Don’t underestimate the effect that the playing surface is going to have on this match either.

The Delhi Capitals have been making some strange team selection choices in IPL 2021 so far. They are essentially playing with just five batsmen with Lalit Yadav at number six and Chris Woakes at number 7.
No disrespect to Lalit Yadav but this batting lineup is quite shallow and susceptible to early wickets. We saw in the match against Rajasthan Royals how Delhi Capitals was struggling to get to a decent total.
Shikhar Dhawan is in great form but the rest of the lineup is not settled just yet. Prithvi Shaw has had two low-scores after a chancy knock in the opening match, Steve Smith is batting at number three but his IPL record remains unconvincing. Rishab Pant has been in very good form for the last few months and is an integral part of the lineup, however, with just Stoinis to follow, he may be prevented from playing his natural game.
Delhi Capitals need to pick someone like Sam Billings in place of Chris Woakes to lengthen the batting and include another quality Indian bowler. Hopefully, the return of Axar Patel and Ishant Sharma will allow them to improve the balance of the team.
Delhi Capitals have an average bowling attack with Kagiso Rabada as the only outstanding bowler. Avesh Khan has done well but himself, Chris Woakes, Lukman Meriwala, and Lalit Yadav in the bowling attack are not going to disturb many leading batsmen.
Delhi Capitals have already been struggling with their team balance and now shifting to Chennai for their next match is going to pose further problems.

After losing the first match of IPL 2021, Mumbai Indians have managed to stage two terrific escapes thanks to their excellent bowling lineup. Rahul Chahar has been brilliant in the middle overs while Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult have been brilliant at the end of the inning.
With Krunal Pandya and Adam Milne in the lineup for the previous match, Mumbai Indians have a fantastic bowling attack. In fact, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard are very capable of bowling their quota of overs as well if needed.
This lineup has allowed the Mumbai Indians to be able to defend two par scores at Chennai.
The real challenge is going to be to get its batsmen to play a bit better. We saw Rohit Sharma start a lot more positively in the previous match and begin to find his touch while Suryajumar Yadav seems to be in a world of his own. Not a single batsmen during the entire tournament has looked more at ease than Suryakumar Yadav at the crease.
Quinton de Kock got some runs in the previous match as did Kieron Pollard. Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya are the only real frontline batsmen that are still looking for the one big score. While Mumbai Indians are not too far ahead of the Delhi Capitals when it comes to current batting form, we think MI has a big advantage over DC in terms of the depth of their batting order.

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first and we think that should be seen as a big advantage. The team that has batted first has won the last five matches in Chennai and only one match has been won by the team that has chased.

The conditions in Chennai are as different as you can get from the conditions in Mumbai. This is why we believe the Delhi Capitals are going to be on the back foot as they will not have too much time to adjust to the pitch in Chennai.
The batsmen have been able to get runs with the new ball after which the spinners have come to the fire. Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers showed that runs could be scored in the death overs as well but they are freaks of nature and we would not consider their performance as easily replicable by other teams.
A score of around 150-160 is par and anything more is going to be hard to chase.

Delhi Capitals seem to be underutilizing the resources at their disposal. That may change in the next match but we have to judge them on the decision what they have taken so far. Their batting is too dependent on Shikhar Dhawan and they lack depth in their batting lineup. Mumbai Indians have no such problems.
Not only is their batting attack superior but we also think their bowling attack is the best in the entire IPL. The last thing that sways our decision is the fact that Mumbai Indians are well-versed with the conditions while this is going to be the first match for the Delhi Capitals in Chennai.

Shikhar is in the kind of form that most batsmen only dream about. He is striking the ball cleanly and seems to go on to score a big score every time he is in. He is also an opening batsman and so bats at the best time to score runs on a pitch like Chennai.
Mumbai Indians are one of the best six-hitting teams in IPL 2021. Players like Rohit Sharma, Kieran Pollard, Ishan Kishan, and the Pandya brothers give them a huge advantage over the other teams in this respect. The odds are not great but we will take the money happily!
