Lundi Octobre 11th, Homeward Bound.
Virginia is up at seven thirty, ready to go sight seeing. We ate a quick petite dejeuner, paid our bill and ventured onto the Metro to go to the Ile de la Cite to see Notre Dame Cathedral. The public transportation in Paris is so good, you can go almost anywhere in the city by the Metro, changing from one line to the other for the same ticket as long as you do not go outside of the gates.
The back of Notre Dame Cathedral taken from Le pont d'Orleans We managed a quick tour of Notre Dame cathedral, bought a few souvenirs at the street stalls and then caught the Metro back to the Opera where we took the Rossiy Opera bus back to the airport. Oh how I wish we had more time.
At the airport we retrieved our bicycles and panniers from the consignee and went to check in at the Air France counter. The attendant wanted to charge us extra for our bikes and would not let Virginia's bike go on the plane without being in a box. We asked to see a supervisor as the deal with the travel agent was, we did not have to pay extra for our bicycles. In the end it all worked out. A box was brought to us and the man helped us to pack it. Lucky it was a big box as all our tools were on the airplane by this time and the only thing we could do was to take off the front tire and turn the forks around. In all the confusion they did not even mention us paying for the bicycles again. Now all we have to do is wait for boarding time and we will be on our way.
Next stop Montreal and then home. We are having some misgivings at the thought of going to work tomorrow, but we can manage that too. After cycling for five hundred kilometers, mostly in the rain, nothing can discourage the three musketeers.
