Red Oak 1
A section of a large Red Oak tree trunk is sliced through at the junction of a large limb. The limb, which originates at the tree's centre (located just off the left edge of the image), grows in size as it appears to move to the right and closer to the outside edge of the tree. Swirling grain at the junction of limb and trunk resemble turbulence in water where two streams meet. Small juvenile branches consumed by the expanding trunk, appear as dark flashes arching out from the tree's centre.
