Game 1 CC Strikers |
|
First Grade Score: 2-2
Goal Scorer(s): Dave Sutherland, Nick Rainey Match Report: Two
great goals by first grade were nullified by some poor refereeing decisions
that handed the Strikers a gift point on the opening day of the season. The
first goal was scored after some enterprising play down the left hand side
between Ash and Rains which produced a pin point cross to Sutho
who headed the ball into the far corner giving the keeper no chance. Strikers then equalised after a scramble in the Tigers 6
yard box and scored after kicking the ball out of the Keepers hands. The
linesman waved his flag indicating the indiscretion but was inexplicably
ignored by the referee. To the boy’s credit, they regathered their composure
and gained control of the game in the last 15 minutes of the first half and
were rewarded with another far post header by Rains to go 2-1 up at the
break. The game would have been over early in the second half
after a neat one-two between Nick Sheath and Rains saw Nick one-on-one with
the keeper but slid the ball just wide of the post. The boys started to tire
late in the second half and defended well until another questionable decision
with minutes to go cost the Tiger’s a win. Overall a very gutsy effort by everyone. If we improve our
fitness and play that way for the rest of the season then we’ll be
right up there. Well done lads. Man of the Match: Eddy Fong Reserve Grade Score: 1-0
Goal Scorer(s): Dwayne Beazley Match Report: The
replay of last year’s semi-final was always going to be a tough affair,
but a solid start against a dogged CC Strikers, produced a tough 1-0 win. The boys played well as a unit and moved the ball around
the park well in the warm conditions. Unfortunately Reidy
had to leave the park after 15mins after a “Johann Sebastian”
down the right hand flank. Rumours have it, it was
due to a “Dirty Kebab” in the we hours that morning. He was ably
replaced by Tim Smithies, who shortly after, setup the first goal with a
trade mark long throw that was flicked on by Dill and calmly put away by
Dwayne. Unfortunately injuries were sustained by Tim and Nathan who
both had to be replaced later on. Hopefully the 2 week layoff will see them
back on the park after Easter. Notable mentions were Dwayne and Guy who worked tirelessly
up front and Tim Eaton who tackled everything that moved in defence. Considering there’s only a handful of last
year’s Grand Final team remaining in the squad it was a great start to
the season. Well done Boys. Man of the Match: Tim Eaton |
