First Grade – Tigers Tamed Score: 1-3 Goal Scorer(s): Adam Townsend Match Report:
The scene was set at Lionel Watts 4 with the long awaited return of Premier
League team to the number one field (in front of the club house). A good
crowd was on hand to watch the boys take on Harbord Seasiders
United and with the U12/1s, coached by the PL’s own Ash Mathieson, helping out as ball boys we were surely on a
winner. But soccer’s a cruel game and with several missed opportunities
and a below par effort, the day would end in disappointment. We did however go 1-0 up thanks to a rare Adam Townsend
goal, who picked up a loose ball in the penalty box
and slotted it past the keeper on the 30min mark. We could have easily gone
in at halftime a few more goals to the better after Adam Townsend, Nick
Rainey and Ashley Mathieson all had good chances
but failed to hit the net. The boys went to sleep in the second half and once again
had 3 goals scored against them in quick succession. To make matters even
worse, several people backed Adam Townsend at long odds for first goal scorer
and took large chunks from the end of season kitty. L Even though we didn’t play well we still created
plenty of chances in the second half which is a good sign. Some hard work at
training this week should see us bounce back against a tough Dee Why opponent
this weekend. Thanks again to the U12/1s who did a fantastic job as ball
boys. Hopefully this will be a regular occurrence with other junior teams
helping out and maybe a few of the ladies teams as well! Man of the Match: The Ball Boys Reserve Grade – Kiwis Can Play Score: 4-1 Goal Scorer(s): Dwayne
Beazley (3), Fred “Lampard” Verduin Match Report: After
the disappointment of drawing the previous week against Avalon the boys were
keen to make amends against HSU who were equal first going into round 3. The
team got off to a good start with the boys controlling play and knocking the
ball around well. A last minute change due to Kane losing his boots (still
not sure how anyone can misplace a pair of size 14s!) saw Andrew Reid start
at right back and Guy Halpin and Dwayne Beazley
combining up front. With Dwayne back in reserves after his stint in first
grade, the boys looked more dangerous up front with the HSU defence unable to
match his pace. Playing the offside trap was definitely not the right option
and ended up with Dwayne scoring a well deserved hat-trick before halftime
proving Kiwis are good at chasing balls around the paddock as well as ewes. To top things off the lads went into the break 4-0 up after
a thunderous shot, from you know who, riffled off the inside of the post and
tore through the hapless netting on the other side of the goals. Rumours have
it that spectators were ducking for cover while net pegs were flying
everywhere. The game was all but over at half time and the boys took
their foot off the peddle but still ended up
convincing 4-1 victors. Man of the Match: Dwayne Beazley |
