Game 2 Avalon |
|
First Grade – Get Out of Jail Free Card Score: 4-3 Goal Scorer(s):
Nick Rainey, John O’Leary, Tim Sheather, Nick Dillenbeck Match Report: A
bright start to the game saw Rains out jump the Avalon tall timber to score a
stunning header in the first 5 minutes off a well directed right side free
kick. Not long after some good pressure by Dwayne on the Avalon defence saw
the ball pop up for Johno who couldn’t
believe his luck finding himself one on one with the keeper. Much to
Ash’s annoyment (and everyone else at the
Wharf Bar that night) Johno calmly slotted the ball
far post to give the boys a 2-0 half time lead. After the break the boys went to sleep and let in 2 early
goals to see Avalon level the scores at 2-2. To everyone’s shock,
Avalon scored another with an unchallenged header off a corner and the score
was 2-3 with 15 minutes to go. Looking down the barrel of defeat, Tim Sheather pushed forward
and found himself outside the opposition’s penalty box, cut in off his
right then crunched a 1000 yard screamer into the top right corner giving the
keeper no chance. Score 3-3. With 5 minutes to go, Avalon were awarded a penalty after
Benny miss handled a cross which fell to an Avalon player resulting in a
handball off the subsequent shot. With the game in the balance Benny made up
for his indiscretion and pulled off a great save with his right boot from the
penalty. If that wasn’t enough a Rich Cuthbert far post free
kick resulted in a superbly placed header by triple D (Dream Debut Dill) in
the dying seconds to give the boys a lucky 4-3 victory. After some bad luck
the previous week we sure made up for it in this game. Hopefully this will be the bit of luck needed to turn the
season around!!! Man of the Match: Tim Sheather Reserve Grade – Struggle in the Heat Score: 0-0 Goal Scorer(s): Nil Match Report: It’s
always a tough game on a bumpy To the boys credit they defended well with Darren
“Playmaker” Leach slotting in well at sweeper. Timmy E once again
tackled everything that moved and Kane was solid at centre back. The second half was much like the first with neither team
threatening goal until a cross saw Burls on the far post with the keeper to
beat but unfortunately skyed his shot over the bar. After 2 games Reserves
haven’t conceded a goal which is pleasing but aren’t creating
many chances. The boys need to be hungrier up front and show a bit more
killer to get into scoring positions. Man of the Match: Darren Leach |
