We are on our way, early if not bright, towards Lloydminster on the
Alberta border. The provincial border runs through the town. Alberta
is famous for cattle and beef but they are having an oil and industrial
boom and seems very busy.
As we head further north, towns and villages are further apart. We
came off the highway to the village of Wabumun,
where we had lunch in the small Lakeside Diner with the best cauliflower
soup I have ever had. There was a coyote beside the road a little farther
on.

On the way across Alberta we stopped to see the giant Psyanka
- Ukrainian painted egg - in Vegreville. We first saw it when
we stopped with the family on our way to Jasper in 1991. We had
everyone lined up for a photo when it swung round in the wind.
We got a picture with everyone's eyes rolled up in fear. This
time there was a lot of wind and it was spinning! More

It started to rain in Vegreville and has continued until the
middle of the evening when the clouds have cleared long enough
to see the mountains in the distance

We are staying overnight in Hinton, close to Jasper National park.
