Positioning Yourself As An Expert
In your modesty, you may feel that you are not an expert and that you don't have any advice to offer the general public. This is not the case! There are many tips you have learned in the course of your career as a direct result of your specialized business knowledge.
How can you use this expertise? Among the strategies you can pursue to promote your expertise and therefore enhance both your image and your business are:
Public Relations
There is a little secret which not many people are aware of. The media, newspapers, radio and television - is always on the lookout for news in the form of stories and angles. Opportunities exist for the publication of 'How-to' press releases which provide advice on a particular issue. These pieces can also be of interest to radio announcers as either fillers or interviews.
When people read of you in the newspapers or hear you on air, there is no question about their perception of you - you are the expert in that particular field.
Writing articles
Similarly when an article, that you have written, is published in a consumer or trade magazine your credibility will go through the roof. It makes good sense to target those magazines read by your target market.
Like the other components of the media, magazine editors are regularly searching for new material for their magazines.
Public Speaking
Public speaking creates an excellent opportunity to present yourself and your business in the best possible light and enhance your image in the process. There is a perception that you must be an expert on the topic involved if you are the presenter.
You don't need to be a champion operator. All it takes to be a competent public speaker is to really know your subject and to practice, practice, and practice some more, until you feel comfortable with you presentation.
