What is Down Syndrome?

Down syndrome is a genetic condition that causes delays in physical and intellectual development. It occurs in one in every 691 live births. Individuals with Down syndrome have 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46. It is the most frequently occurring chromosomal disorder. Down syndrome is not related to race, nationality, religion or socioeconomic status. 4.) Education For Healthcare Professionals.

The first step for TROPICAL in reaching out to new families is to enable them to reach out to us.  Those in the best position to refer families to TROPICAL are the doctors and nurses who are working with a family at the time they learn of their childs diagnosis.  Since 1982, the medical community has been a major focus of our outreach efforts.
