The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society plans to overhaul it's website, www.765.org, very soon.
News of the FWRHS' overhaul of Nickel Plate berkshire 765 is good. Monies for the overhaul have been attained and bidding is to begin. Already, the backhead has been stripped of all piping and appliances. The sand dome has also been removed along with many other parts of the 765 in preperation for upcoming work.
Upcoming work will include seperating the tender from the engine and lifting the engine into the air. The lifting is required to remove the drivers so that new "tires" may be applied. While the drivers are being serviced, roller bearings will be installed wherever they are not already found. Visual as well as sonic inspections of the boiler will also be performed.
When the work is finished, the 765 will once again be ready for another 50,000 miles of dependable service. Everyone looks forward to that day and we hope things go smoothly and quickly.
