Victorian Spirit Kettle
This ornate yet practical kettle would have been used to boil water in the drawing or dining room to enable tea making that produced a fresh hot cup of tea.Tea made in the kitchen and brought through by the staff, would have been cold by the time it was served at table.
The kettle, stand and burner, plated with sterling silver applied by the then novel electro-plating method has been designed with strong influences from the new Art Nouveau style,
The overall height of the kettle to the top of the handle is 30cm.
Victorian Silver Salt Spoons
Two spoons in solid Victorian silver with gilded bowls (to prevent salt corrosion). Attractive and contemporary beaded design and in perfect condition. They look as if they have never been used. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1884 with makers mark [H&T] Hilliard & Thomason. A rare and unusually fine example of Victorian Silver Salt Spoons.
Each spoon measures 5.5cm long.
Honeymooning in the Alps
In 1918, when Otto F. Leopold. president of the Pompeian Manufacturing Company of Cleveland, Ohio, decided to advertise his range of ladies Cosmetics, he wanted to use a name and image that women all over the world would recognise and repect. He approached the famous actress Mary Pickford to be his "Pompeian Beauty of the Year" and to appear in posters, newspaper and magazine advertisements promoting his company's cosmetics.
The result was a famous series of advertisements. "Honeymooning in the Alps" is a rare original print without the overlay of advertising text normally encountered.
This picture, with a verified date of 1924 is in perfect condition with no discolourations of any kind.
This is a rare chance to view a beautiful piece of Art Nouveau ephemera in exceptional condition.
The picture measures 25" x 7�" and is glazed and mounted in an original ebony frame
