Reston on W&OD

Photo by H.H. Harwood. December, 1966. Sunset Hills Station in foreground. Gazebo in background.

Gazebo, c. 1900, built on the foundations of an icehouse, which was in turn built in the 19th-Century. Pond was dug by hand.

"Probably one of the most charming spots along The Old Dominion was Sunset Hills, the site of the stillborn "new town" of Wiehle. In this 1966 scene, a C&O switcher rolls four cars past the neat little station and gazebo on Dr. Wiehle's old estate...."
