Custom Orthotics

Foot orthosis - a moulded insert taken from a three-dimensional cast for the purpose of alleviating foot and leg pain and to provide assistance for abnormalities or limited actions of the lower limbs.

There are three different proceedures used to create the orthotic. Each one has it's benefits and the methold used will be dictated by your needs. Choose a method to see how it is done or scroll down to view them all.

1. PLASTER CASTING
2. COMPUTER CAST
3. PLASTER SLIPPER CASTING

Plaster Casting Method:

(1) 3 Dimensional impressions are made using the patients properly aligned foot pressed
in a soft foam moulding material. (2) Plaster is poured into the mould and hardens.
(3) The moulding material is removed and cleaned (4) necessary adjustment to the cast are made at this point
(5) heat mouldable materials
of different densities and thickness are vacuum pressed over the plaster cast (6) The moulded orthotic is removed from the cast, (7) then trimmed and (8) smoothed and prepared for use.

All Foot Dynamics othotics are covered in soft, comfortable materials to make the finished product attractive as well as functional.

Computer Casting

Computer casting is done
with a contact digitizer.
(1) The patients foot is
aligned on the 3-D foot scanner. (2) After the foot
is removed the impression is digitized and (3) displayed on our integrated computer system. Full length soft orthotics are made from this digitized information on a computer controlled milling machine.

Plaster Slipper Casting

(1) A plaster cast is made by forming plaster around the patients foot. (2) This mould is carefully removed and (3) filled with plaster to create the mould.

From here the lab work follows steps 4 through 8 of the Plaster casting method.
