Mission

We are committed to ensuring the ecological integrity of our coastal region's terrestrial, wetland and marine environments between Glenrock State Conservation Area in the north and Munmorah in the south of New South Wales.

We work to increase community awareness of the value of conserving, safeguarding and rehabilitating our precious landscapes and seascapes. We attempt to influence major rezoning decision and new developments so that they are consistent with the principles of ecologically sustainable use.

History

The Lake Macquarie Coastal and Wetlands Alliance was formed in 1996, in the footsteps of the Wetlands Action Group, which had been formed in 1994 and which focused on Jewells Wetlands. The new group's focus was broadened to:

•  ensure the ecological integrity of the coastal region between Munmorah to the south and Glenrock to the north;

•  ensure controlled and managed access to the coastal region so that its varied elements would be available now and into the future for Lake Macquarie residents and visitors;

•  influence public opinion towards appreciating the value of preserving and rehabilitating the coast;

•  meet and work with all parties involved with the management and development of this area.
