I have been riding motorcycles for around 10 years. At first it was more for necessity, because where we live it is a fair hike to catch public transport, and my wife and I worked on opposite sides of the city. Needless to say it made for a long day for both of us as we only had one car... we spent a lot of time travelling.

I never really thought about bikers much, they were always the ones that got to the head of the line at the lights and never got stuck in traffic. But when a friend suggested that maybe I should consider a bike as a cheap mode of transport. What he said to me that day played on my mind for weeks so eventully I decided to take the plung and got licenced.

While I was stuck on my 250cc limit, I bought an old Honda off a friend at work for AU$200 and over the next 12 months rebuilt it, I figured that if I was going to ride one I might as well know what makes it tick (just in case). It didn't take long before I was hooked. Now I ride the bike everywhere.

Even my kids love bikes. The two boys pretend to ride bikes while straddling the arm of a sofa or riding their trikes around the backyard, complete with ice cream containers for helmets, "my" gloves and all the sounds. It really is funny. My daughter is keen too. She is a little more subtle, as daughters usually are, and usually sits next to me while I read Two Wheels or Australian Motorcycle News (AMCN) and looks at the pictures.

Suffice to say that I have never looked back and enjoy every minute I ride... even if it is to the shops for bread and milk.
