JANUARY 7, 2004 — I just watched “28 Days Later...” this past weekend, and I was left with a feeling of “Wow!” It was a combination of Stephen King’s, “The Stand” meets “Night of the Living Dead.”
I most certainly don’t think I’ll see a better movie than this for at least a year. The thing I liked the most about it was not so much the antagonistic situation created by the stories doomsday theme, but the realism in the behavior and reactions of the human characters in the movie set against
the context of today’s post modern thinking, including what we’ve seen in the Christian church. You got to see humanity at its best and at its worst. It dealt with extremes such as innocence, corruption, hope and despair. As Bill and Ted would say, “A most excellent adventure!”
We’ve been deconstructing social normalcy for years now. Even in the church, we’re re-inventing a new brand of Christianity based on self-actualization. Basically there is no one or no where we look to for the answers to our most private questions. We must look within ourselves, which doesn’t sound bad, but
it’s gotten to the point where we’re creating our own reality bubbles which not only come into conflict with other peoples’ bubbles, but also with Biblical reality. No wonder we’re so weak. Anything based on other than truth is just shifting sand.
We’ve arrived at a time in history, where we’re the kind of society that will welcome the Anti-Christ. He will promote this culture of self, and be da Man that people will all look up to. I was watching the 2003 A&E Biography, and they did a profile on Arnold Schwarzenegger. The biography went on to say,
here is a guy that got elected because of his celebritism. He doesn’t stand for any issues, and despite his womanizing and questionable past, California voted this guy to save them. Sounds like how the Anti-Christ will make his rise to power. With a culture obsessed with celebrities, can we even recognize
truth and character when we see it anymore?
So there you have it….from “28 Days Later” to the pending arrival of the Anti-Christ. It’s not a connection most people would make, but Whoomp, there it is!
