MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE
by Richard A. Swenson, M.D.
Reviewed by: Lenny Voo
Science and Christianity in bed together. In the modern world, science and religion pretty much stayed away from each other. But as we enter the postmodern world where traditions are falling one by one, Richard Swenson
helps to reveal God's glory and blessings by bringing the two together. From the subatomic level to ends of the universe our God is evident. Swenson looks at black holes and the event horizon, at cellular functions, and many
other things usually only looked at clinically with a telescope, microscope or some other scientific instrument or observation.
Even the act of breathing, which we take for granted just about every second of our lives can bring new revelations about our relationship with God. Each breath we take contains millions and millions of air molecules that
Jesus had breathed in his lifetime. Now I'm not a superstitious person who carries a relic (like the pinkie nail of St. Carlisle of Bogus) around in hopes of receiving some blessing, but dwelling on the idea that I'm breathing
the same air that Jesus breathed makes the concept of Jesus as a man more real to me. Think about that and take another deep breath. Cool, huh?
While I thought this book was occasionally simplistic, theologically incorrect, and biased, I nevertheless found new joy in running around catching snow flakes on my tongue (who cares what the neighbors were thinking), looking
for shooting stars at night, and listening to the ocean roar. These things, the snow, sky and ocean, were no longer to be seen with dispassionate eyes. Rather, they are now seen as gifts and blessings from an almighty and personal
God who loves me, who counted every drop of Jesus's precious blood that was shed and named one of them after me!
If you'd like to see the marriage of science and Christianity, this book will get you started with a glimpse of the relationship between science and God.
