Today in Russia the expression "Time share" is a synonym of dupery, which
is used by the tourist "fugitive" companies to attract the clients, who wants to spend summer
holidays in private apartment near the sea and abroad. However, if to judge on the homonymous
TV-movie, using this kind of service can give some problems in USA too.
But we don't talk about the problems above, we discuss the film,
that like some it's successful predecessors, for example, "The irony of fate " uses an idea to join "under the same roof"
completely different people to look at the reality around us, may be, with another point of
view.
"Time Share" is the comedy for whole family about summer
holidays with children and all the problems, suitable to the case. To be more accurate, there
is the only problem, which gets Julia (Nastassia Kinski) - she simply wants to find a bit of the
profane love. But her friend, her workfellow Russel, a scientist and biologist too, can't give
it. In comparison with such a hero the character of Timothy Dalton, Matt, cook according to his
speciality and dedicated Epicurean, certainly, easily conquers Julia's heart and her herself.
And their four children, born in the former marriages, become friends and, probably, very soon
they will join with their parents to the new family.

But the idyll of summer recreation on the ocean beach is broken
by� no, not the cheerful war between the two families, inevitable for the situation like this
("a lovers' quarrel"), but the frequent feelings, that some elements of the movie (not to say -
many) we have already seen somewhere in cinema!
There is funny dog, who runs along the ocean beach, enjoying the
being. This scene reminds us the well-known moments from "The Man and The Woman", directed by
Claude Leliush. There are kids, who have gone away, trying to operate with a real yacht.
Certainly they run into a gale, like some years ago Rhett Butler and Scarlet or Bobby and Jo in
Dalton's former films "Scarlett" and "The Salt Water Moose". But in the our case everything
looks much more simply and the scene of salvage is absent at all - shoestring budget!
Well, are the moments, where Matt allures Julia, mainly (1:1)
the same, that we can see in the movie "The Naked Gun - 2"? The heroes there beat clay instead
of dough for "fish and chips" and use a throwing-wheel!
It was impossible to avoid the traditional scene of bathing in
a swimming pool, when the movie drew to a close. For a long time this is one of the most
frequently used cliches applied in comedies, thrillers and detective films in the European and
American cinema.
However there is the thing you can see, perhaps, in "Time Share"
only - I mean the luckless scientist, performed here as a complete fool. If you will look through
the whole collection of Russian comedy cinema for the last 50 years, you, probably, will not
meet just one so much simplified personage from the world of science! So powerful inoculation
to protect our population from primitivism in the art was made by the Soviet film director
Gregory Alexandrov, who has brilliantly demonstrated all the absurdity of the such approach to
creating of character in the musical comedy "The Spring". The special prize of the VII Venice
Cinema Festival for the original plot in 1947, the constant success among many generations of
viewers, the manual of mastership for those, who dedicated his life to the art of cinema - this
is a merited result of the work, which was done by very talented collective of the authors and
performers.
Probably, the slowly developing plot of "Time Share", where the
characters are simply kill time, changing their dresses and interiors, conduces to the
appearance of the associations and thinkings above.
This is why the ability of Nastassia Kinski and Timothy Dalton
to work in earnest, to work well even in the circumstances of so specific script delights me!
Like the Nastassia' s heroine, they, it seems, are carrying out the riskful experiment, trying
to find the borderline, behind which it will be impossible to save an "empty" plot by means of
good acting!

They are looking very straight in the film. Julia is a real
woman - gentle, charming, careful.
Matt is a little bit roughish, but he can apprecuate the
situation keenly. Matt obtains a firm plant on the ground and can enjoy with the being, like a
child. Timothy doesn't afraid to wear dinner jacket, because neither facial expression, nor a
tenue of his hero will let you even a hint to James Bond. As usual all the details of a
character are chosen and performed carefully. In this situation people say in Russia: "to use
a steam-hammer to crack nuts"�
Early the year 2000 the name of Timothy Dalton disappeared from
the list of "Time Share" co-producers. I think, many admirers of his talent would support his
more radical decision.
As for Sharon Von Wietersheim, not very experienced director yet,
let's think of her, that she simply had a rest in "Time Share" with Eric Tuchman and their
personages.
