Sleeps 1-3 people on a self catering basis

Gîte L’Écurie a one bedroom ground floor apartment is suitable for 1-3 people (children from 8 years old upwards) and is attached to the farmhouse St Victor du Fau. In front of the apartment is a pretty, south facing private terrace with traditional French ironwork table and chairs, sun parasol, various plants, strawberries and a small herb garden for our guests to use. This terrace is an ideal spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The apartment is accessed by a front door, (private entrance) and leads into a hallway with a hanging area for coats and an area for walking boots, shoes etc. Off the hallway is a double bedroom with kingsize cherry wood French sleighbed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. Just off the bedroom is a luxury shower wet room which was modernised in December 2010.

The kitchen living room has an original rustic stone wall, oak beamed ceiling, but was completely modernised in 2008 and has many modern day comforts, original artwork, antiques and is very homely.  The views from the windows are over a large lawn, woodland and the rolling hills. Very often guests have been lucky enough to watch boxing hares, deer, wild boar, golden orioles and many other birds.

There is a back door from the kitchen living room leading out on to a decked balcony with comfortable chairs and a marble topped table overlooking the back lawned garden, trees and swimming pool.  Stone steps lead down on to a large private lawn where there are 2 sunloungers  and a further teak table and chairs for our guests.  There is access from here to the swimming pool across the lawn.

The sun sets at the back of the house in the early evening, thus providing a wonderful place to sit, enjoy a cool drink, eat dinner, relax and take in the last rays of the sun, listen to the golden orioles and watch the horses stroll across the fields of the hill across the valley.

Between December 2010 and March 2011, Gite L'Ecurie was extensively renovated and repainted and offers luxury accommodation to our guests.

What Our Guests have said..........

December 2008
"Thank you Sara & Jeff.  We have had a brilliant time here.  Well equipped and comfortable.  In the few days here we've packed in so much from cross country walking at Beille to catching the cable car up from Ax-Les-Thermes to the top ski station to sit in the sun watching the skiers!  Brilliant! "

June 2009
"This wonderful home away from home had met all our expectations.  We felt very comfortable and welcome.  We found the location ideal for going around this region.  It is pretty close to everywhere really."  The memory of this restful place will always have a special place in our hearts."

July 2009
"We had a lovely relaxing week here with several trips and walks.  We were very comfortable and enjoyed the pool.  One of our best stays after about 10 other places in France!"

August 2009
"Have thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this comfortable gite in its rustic setting.  As the weather has been blistering hot we have really appreciated the wonderful pool.  We have made good use of the helpful guest information, which we have found very accurate.  Many thanks to Sara & Jeff for their warm welcome and friendly hospitality!"

October 2009
"We had a superb time visiting castles, towns and mountains of the Ariege and Pyrenees.  We explored ancient villages and towns, in what we can only describe as french Tuscany.  Wow!  What could be better?  Your home was simply delightful, very well equipped, cosy and comfortable.  We enjoyed the company of Tanga and Annabelle.

We felt at home in Pamiers - comfortable and unpretentious.

We religiously followed and enjoyed all your recommded itinerary of places to visit.

Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with us, it was enriching."

May 2010
"We really enjoyed our holiday with Jeff and Sara and their helpfulness and friendliness was very much appreciated.  The location is ideally suited to exploring the area and there are many many beautiful places to see and relax in.

Do no miss the beautiful town of Mirepoix and lunch in the square.

We would highly recommend St Victor du Fau Gites to our friends and you have to try one of Sara's full English breakfasts (to die for :-D)."

June 2010
"What can I say - I don't want to leave.  The gite is lovely, so comfortable and the TV is great! We didn't do the walking we planned - the weather was so good and the ambience so relaxing that the pool ensnared us.

I hope you are lucky and see the Golden Orioles - their whistling added an almost tropical sound to our stay.  Finally, Annabelle, we will miss you, you lovely, lovely dog and thank you Sara & Jeff for making our brief holiday so wonderful - we'll be back!  Jeff the balcony is fab - you'll have to try it sometime!"

* * *

"Sara, Jeff and Alex, thank you once again for your warm hospitality.  Our repeat stay at your comfortable gite is just as great as our first stay.  We enjoyed the beautiful scenery around your cozy home.  We hope to see you in Canada soon."

July 2010
"Once again, Jeff and Sara, a wonderful week in the Ariege.  Beautifully equipped gite, right up there with the best of the best.  Lovely, peaceful countryside, plenty of warmth to make use of the pool, spectacular thunderstorm.  What more could one want?  We'll be back, as soon as we can and will spread the word."

* * *

"Thank you for a wonderful, peaceful stay - just what we needed.....a retreat almost, as far from the English rat race as one can possibly be out here.  We have not been keeping to any schedule at all!  We get up when we wake, swim when we wish, eat when our tummy rumbles and read to our hearts content!

You have  a lovely hospitality, warm and welcoming.  It has been delightful to share your gite for a few days and we hope to come back soon."

August 2010
"Thanks for sharing your wonderful house and gardens with us.  We have had a very relaxing and peaceful week in a lovely setting.

Lovely to meet you both and hope to come back soon."

* * *
"We spent a wonderful two weeks at St Victor du Fau.  There is only one problem, they are over....   Sara & Jeff were excellent hosts, always present when needed.

The surroundings are amazing and there is much more to see than you can do in two weeks.  Don't miss the underground river in Labouiche, the castle in Foix and the lovely town of Mirepoix.  The lake Mondeley or the castle in Puivert are also worth the trip.

But let's not forget the superb swimming pool near the house, where we sent the most beautiful hours with our little David.  Last but not least, don't hesitate to order Sara's terrific dinners!"

* * *

"Thank you for our time here - it has been a wonderful retreat from the world - beautiful weather, idyllic surroundings - we were far too comfortable to go anywhere.  My plans to walk the Pyrenees were somewhat over optimistic in this heat but maybe we can come back when it's cooler and see the sights.  Instead we read, we slept, we ate and we relaxed.  What a lovely place!"

* * *

"This is a wonderful region - not least for its connections with Gabriel Faure!!  L'Ecurie was so relaxing and the pool is just wonderful too!

Thank you for your unobtrusive but so helpful welcome!  We felt at home immediately.  We envy your tranquility and quality of life!"

September 2010
"Kaye and I are so sad to be leaving but this is the way a great holiday should end!!!

What a brilliant region and superb location.  The house and grounds are an oasis of tranquility yet Foix, Montsegur, Mirepoix, etc etc all within easy drive.

We came to walk and see the Cathar history.  We did everything we hoped to do and much more.  Thanks Sara and Jeff the perfect hosts, there when needed, friendly but not imposing.

Many, many thanks."

October 2010
"My wife and I recently returned from a motoring holiday in the Pyrenees area. We stayed 4 nights at the gite L'Ecurie and found it to be an ideal base from which to sightsee.

The gite is located near Pamiers in tranquil surroundings in 50 acres of woodland. It was fully equipped for all our needs and clean. Our hosts were Sara and Jeff who live in the attached building, and were there for us when required, catering for our every whim, and we thank them for it.

Anyone wanting to get away from it all and chill out would have to look far and wide to find a better place in this area.

Thanks again."

"It is a lovely place and we really enjoyed our stay there. It was very homely and comfortable and I'm sure we'll be back at some stage. We sent a lot of photographs to our friends and they were very impressed with the pictures of the property, so you never know, you might get a few more enquiries form this part of the world."

March 2011
"We had a lovely time here in St Victor du Fau.  You can't help but relax in this peaceful, pretty place.

We'd definitely recommend a day out in Carcassonne and a trip to Chateau de Montsegur (30 minutes away from Foix) to see the impressive hill top castle and for the stunning views.

Thanks."

June 2011
"L'Ecurie is a wonderful spot to unwind."

"We've had a very pleasant relaxing week - this is a beautiful place - comfortable gite, lovely pool and balcony.  'Did' Mirepoix and Foix, also walked to Pamiers - lovely walk leaving road near observation point though quite steep.  Enjoyed the setting here too - watched a hare in the back garden the night it rained!

July 2011
"Very tranquil setting, with only the birds and cowbells to disturb!  Lovely pool and comfortable rooms.  Had a very peaceful week with Annabelle & Tanga - home from home."

* * *

"We've had a lovely two weeks at the St Victor gite in this beautiful area of France.  Sara and Jeff made us very welcome and made some great suggestions for days out.  The gite is beautiful and the bed is just too comfy to get out of before 10am!  We particularly enjoyed Sara's suggestion to try the short hike up to the castle at Rocquefixade and see the wonderful view.  Another suggestions for those who love a good view is from the top of Col de Port, south of Foix.
  There is a fantastic walk straight up with an amazing view on a good day over the pyrenees.  Follow the path on the opposite side to the bar which is up there and it takes you to 1663 metres.  It takes about an hour, is very steep but worth it.  The resturants at Pamiers have some wonderful food that we very much enjoyed, but on our last night we went in search of a quick pizza and found a good place in Pamiers.  For guests looking for similar try 'le castell' on rue Charles de Gaulle, off the smaller market place.  It looks like a 'locals' bar from the outside but there's a nice resturant area at the back and the pizza was yummy.  We both love this area and had a wonderful time exploring it from this lovely base, hope we may return in future."

August 2011
"What a place!!  So relaxing and peaceful.  Pool fab.....Just what the doctor ordered.

Ariege is so beautiful - surprised we haven't been here before.

Recommend Ax-Les-Thermes - a trip up the in the car right to the top - view is fabulous.  So many places to see that are all great with views that are superb.

Have a meal at Restaurant Deymier - fantastic!

Can honestly say this has been one of the best holidays we've ever had (and we've been coming to France for many years).

Jeff and Sara are great hosts and their local knowledge is good!"

August/September 2011
"We have had a splendidly relaxed time here in this lovely gite, enjoyed sitting about the front and back and lots of other corners too.  The pool was a real bonus.

Further afield (occasionally) we'll remember a great meal in the Hotel du Commerce, Mirepoix ascending Montsegur and an excellent walk round the Lac de Mondely.

Thanks so much to Sara & Jeff (and the ever attentive Tanga & Annabelle)."

September/October 2011
"A nice peaceful place  to relax in the sunshine.  Well equipped gite.

Visited the coast between Bages and Signean to see the flamingoes, Maison des Loups near Aix-Les-Thermes, Prehistoric Park near Tarascon, the grotto at Maz d'Azil and would recommend a trip to these facinating places.

Enjoyed the visits from Tanga and Annabelle each day."

March 2012
"It was the best time we have ever had!  Thanks a lot.  We wish you all the best best for your plans and really looking forward to seeing you again."

April 2012
"Happy Easter to your all!"  Such a lovely peaceful spot.  Not many locations you can ski and sit on the beach during the same week!  Had a great time  : )"

May 2012
"Thanks for our stay.  The view is superb and thanks very much for your welcome."

June 2012
"You really do have a tranquil and beautiful spot here, it has been wonderful to experience it for two weeks and also explore the surrounding countryside, towns and villages.  Your supply of CD's and books were most welcome too and of course your company by the pool.  Very best wishes."

* * *

"Dear Sara & Jeff, thank you so much for a really lovely week, we loved the gite, countryside and weather!  Only problem was it went far too quickly.  Felt so at home."

July 2012
"This is to thank you for hospitality and excellent accomodation at St.Victor du Fau. We have enjoyed our stay there very much, and although the weather was not so kind to make also the pool inevitable, we had a great time in Ariege."

* * *

"Thank you for an amazing holiday.  Tranquility and sun - perfect!  The gite is superb and you made us very welcome."

August 2012
"What a lovely place!  Feeling totally chilled after our week stay here.  The days have seemed long for exactly the right reasons - no sense of rush, plenty to do and see in the local area but a wonderfully relaxed return home each day to the pool and the sense of privacy afforded by the unobtrusive but helpful hosts.

Thank you Sara & Jeff, you have created the perfect environment for a perfect holiday!"

* * *

We are really sad to be leaving this place.  It's so relaxing and peaceful.  We came here to unwind and that's what we did (mostly lazing by the pool).  We visited Lake Mondely, Mirepoix and regretably Andorra (give it a miss unless you want cheap tabacco or alcohol!)

The market at Mirepoix is a must, go early to avoid the crowds and parking issues.

Finally a big thanks to Jeff, Sara and Alex, you made our holiday and we will leave with fond memories!  What a super place you have."

* * *

"There is nothing we can say that hasn't already been said!  So we will just echo everyone else's compliments.  We have enjoyed a restful holiday away from the sizzling temps in Spain and would like to thank you both for your hospitality.  Above all, it was really interesting to share experiences and compare notes with other expats.

We wish you both the very best of luck with your plans for the future"

September 2012
"Loved it so much, we stayed an extra 2 nights rather than drive to Bilbao!  Gentle rhythm of life in the Ariege countryside has allowed for total relaxation.  The beautiful weather has helped and the comfortable gite in this gorgeous setting has made it a memorable holiday.

Some of our highlights - the chateaux at Foix, the beautiful square in Mirepoix and the little church at Vals.  The views towards the Pyrenees from Madiere and the peace and quiet at St Martin D'Oydes and the two lovely walks along stretches of the Chemin de St Jacques de Compostelle from St Victor Rouzaud.

Thank you Sara and Jeff for the home comforts, the attention to detail and the informative maps and guides.  Thank you very much."

May 2013

"A lovely short break in the countryside is full of surprises.  With snow melting on the mountains and the rivers and cascades were spectacular.
Fortunate enough to tag onto a visit to the Niaux Caves and the drawings - they really have the "wow" factor! - well worth the trip.
Delightful to see you Sara & Jeff and thank you for your hospitality."

***

"Well, what a gorgeous gite?  Everything is perfect, well equiped, amazingly comfortable bed and beautiful gardens.  Unfortunately the weather has been "unusual!"  So wet and windy, but there is so much to do in this area, so it doesn't matter.

On our sunny & warm 2 days: Carcassonne - beautiful - a 'must visit' place and recommend Le Minsterel for lunch.  Mirepoix - excellent market, pretty square.  For rainy day (or otherwise!): Ax Les Thermes - Forge de Pyrene - lots of artisan demonstrations - in French (no translation), very good.  Le Grand Cafe for lunch.  Grotte de Niaux - fabulous!  Book an English tour , wear warm clothes and enjoy this impressive cave and its drawings - unbelievable!

Thank you Sara & Jeff for sharing your haven with us.  Best wishes"

June 2013

Nous allons passes un agreable moment au Gite de L'Ecurie.

Accueil tres sympathique, la maison est bien equipee, le jardin magnifique et un lit comfortable.

Nous recommenderons ce lieu pour un sejour de detente.

Cordialement.

 July 2013

What a wonderful stay, home from hom.  Jeff and Sara most welcoming.

Weather was slightly warmer than the UK (30 C) all week.

Each morning and evening on the verandah spent chilling and listening to the extensive wildlife was heaven for us (you will understand if you have been to Leeds).

W
e hope to be back, hopefully next time with a view to returning to the area.

Thank you for a magical week.

 August 2013

Thank you for a lovely stay in your beautiful apartment - we are very lucky to have a holiday gite in SW France and such fab hosts!

***

Brilliant stay! And a lovely holiday.  The pool is awesome and we really enjoyed using it.

The surroundings are beautiful and so are the Pyrenees.  The weather has been wonderful and so have the animal visitors.

Thank you so much.

September 2013

Beautiful part of France.  Amazing variation of places to visit and explore.

This gite is a great place to chill after climbing Montsegur, bungy jumping or visiting any of the beautiful old town.  Sadly not enough time to see all we wanted to see.  Hightlight for me - the Riviere Souterranean at Labouiche - awesome.

Sara & Jeff always willing to help if needed.
