The families Stålnacke in the Scandinavian countries and USA

Introduction

The surname Stålnacke (Stolnacke) has occured within two differents occupational groups from the middle of 17th in Sweden, northern Europe:
1) Hammersmiths and miners. See below!
2) Boatswains (sailors), for instance in Bergshammar´s parish in Södermanland County.

The surname was spelt "Ståhlnacka or Ståhlnacke and later changed to Stålnacke" (eng. Steelneck) in the second half of the 18th century. The surname contains two words: steel and neck. Neck is a oldfashioned word and it possily means hill.

There were least four differents hammersmiths of the families Stålnacke in Sweden, northern Europe from the 17th to the 20th century.
The older families were:
1) The family Jöns Olofsson-Stålnacke in Norrbotten County or
in the Arctic area of Scandinavian countries.
The surname mentioned in 1663. Some of the family "Stolnack" live in USA.
2) The family Erik Olofsson-Stålnacke in Örebro and Värmland Counties
in the provinces of Närke and Värmland.
The surname mentioned in 1664. Some of the family "Staalnacke" live in Denmark.
The younger families were:
3) The family Anders and Jonas Mattsson-Stålnacke in Värmland County
in the province of Värmland.
The surname mentioned in 1697. Lot of the families "Steelnack", "Stolnack", "Stolnacke"
and "Stolnacker" live in USA. Some of the families live in Sweden, Azerbaijan (Baku)
and west of Georgien (Samtredia).
4) The family Anders Gustav Andersson Stålnacke in Skaraborg County
in the north-east of Västergötland.
The surname mentioned in 1849. All of the family "Stohl" live in USA.
5) The family Anders Gustav Gustavsson Stålnacke in Skaraborg County
in the north-east of Västergötland.
The surname mentioned in 1876. The family lived in Mariestad, Sweden.

The family Olofsson-Stålnacke

Jöns Olofsson Stålnacka 1613-1675
The ancestor was "Jöns Olofsson Stålnacka (1613-168?). He lived in the 17th century. He was possibly born in Tierp´s parish in Uppland County in 1613. He was possibly son of tailor Olof Eriksson at Dorkarby in Tolfta`s parish in Uppland County. His surname is mentioned in a document for the first time in 1663. He was a miner at Svappavaara`s copper mine, Jukkasjärvi´s parish in Norrbotten County in northern Lapland in the north of Sweden in 1658-1675.  He came with his family from Västland´s and Strömsberg´s factories, Västland´s and Tolfta´s parishes in Uppland County in central Sweden in 1658. Where he was a craftsman (masterbuilder and wheel-maker) in 1641-1658.
Jöns had two known sons Erik and Abraham Jönsson Ståhlnacka. They were miners. "Erik Jönsson Ståhlnacka" (1642-1723) was later a copper- fuser and a mine-commander at the Svappavaara and Sjangeli copper mines in Norrbotten County in northern Lapland in the north of Sweden. He had five known sons "Jöns, Johan, Erik, Jöran (Georg) and Anders Ersson Ståhlnacka". Besides it he had two known daughters "Cherstin and Annica (Anna) Ersdotter Ståhlnacka". The children lived at the end of 17th century and in the first half of the 18th century. The sons were copper-fusers and or miners at the Svappavaara and Sjangeli copper mines.

Erik Olofsson Ståhlnacke 162?-169?
Jöns  Olofsson Stålnacka was not possibly the brother of "Erik Olofsson Ståhlnacke" (162?-169?). He lived in the 17th century. His surname is mentioned in a document for the first time in 1664. Erik was a hammersmith (factory blacksmith) at the Lower Dömle´s factory, Lower Ullerud´s parish in Värmland County in the province of Värmland in central Sweden in 1673-1678. He came with his family from Finnån´s factory, Järnboås´ (Nora´s) parish in Örebro County in the province of Närke in central Sweden in 1672. Where he was hammersmith in 1664-1672. He was possibly married twice. He had four known sons Erik (165?-1743), Olof (165?-1728), Petter and Karl Stålnacke. The sons lived during the end of the 17th century and in the first half of the 18th century. They were hammersmiths in Värmland County.


Migration
Most of the family decendants changed their jobs from miners to farmer or fishermen in the 19th century. The family moved often to anothers of places in Norrbotten County, north of Finland and Norway countries. Some of the family members emigrated to USA in 1890-1910. Today, they are living in the north of Sweden, Finland and Norway countries.
