Hey fellow St Charles Class Mates. Let's have some fun with this Reunion website by sending your old St Charles pictures and some new ones of yourself and friends to either Dana, Terry or Myself for posting. Send hard copies to Dana so that she can scan them. She will return them to you. Also, bring pictures and other artifacts to our get together. It would be fun to see what you have in your box of memories. See you there!

An Update from the Desk Of:  Dana (Prettyman) Marevich (10-30-2003)
Hi Everyone,
Oh my gosh it's really about to happen! so far we have a great group coming.
We even have people coming from outside the USA! If that invitation is sitting in your "in" box or under a stack of "to do's" it's time to DO something about it and send your rsvp and check in. Send your check for $60 made out to Terry Tardino to Dana Marevich at 1855 Rose Ave. San Marino, CA 91108.
I've been asked what to wear. As far as what we are wearing...I'm figuring California middle of the road. The explanation of that is, I guess depending on the weather - In November, it could be anywhere from a sundress to warm.
Maybe's ups..somewhere around a sweater set and skirt or nice pants, blazer or jacket if it isn't too hot and you don't have hot flashes, comfortable to cute shoes, if you can stand the heels. A pantsuit is okay but not wool! (This is starting to sound like an internet joke!) If you're coming from the east coast go lighter! For the guys...leave the ties at home. The jacket is only necessary if you are insecure without one or you think you may be cold...Socks are optional
The additional activities are: Friday, Nov. 7...Informal, no host mixer at Ernies (yes, it's still there.) Just ask for Class of '61. They wouldn't give us a seperate area without a deposit, so we figured we'd innodate them and they would give up one quick! Sunday, Nov. 9...Brunch at The Sportsman's Lodge..They don't take reservations, but there's a champagne brunch for $21.95 or 14.95 inb the bar with no champagne. There is probably just a regular menu as well.
We can still use volunteers for bartending, clean up and donations of wine , beer, alcohol. Looking forward to seeing you all!
Love, Dana

Memories from:   Kathy (Hurley) Montierth (10-23-2003)

Dear Friends, I've been making a list of some of my memories of St. Charles, and I thought to "get you in the mood" for this reunion, I'd send you two or three each weekday from now until the reunion. Hope you'll enjoy them. Feel free to respond with your own. (1.) Sister Mary Nativity selling her "badges" and the "Catholic Miss" magazine for girls (2.) The Eskimo yo-yo craze and the one that was thrown up and hung there, stuck on the wire over the playground forever (3.) Putting JMJ (Jesus, Mary and Joseph) at the top of all your papers (4.) Standing up and saying "Good morning, Monsignor" whenever Monsignor Meade came into the classroom. (5.) When we interpreted the BVM (Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary) after the sisters' names as "Blacked Veiled Monsters." (6.) The playground being strategically divided between girls and boys. I remember being very angry because I think it was Herman Lemmerman who was signing my autograph book about a week before graduation and one of the sisters told us to get back on our own side of the playground. Even the finality of graduating didn't make fraternization any less of a crime! (7.) Different "seasons" on the playground for playing certain things when you just HAD to participate -Tether Ball -Hopscotch -Duncan yo-yos (Could you "rock the cradle" or "walk the dog?) -Trading cards -Jump-rope (remember double Dutch? Or how about doing all the actions required in this rhyme? "Not last night but the night before, twenty-six robbers came a knockin' at my door. I ran out as they ran in. Asked them what they wanted and this is what they said. Spanish dancer, do the splits, Spanish dance, give a high kick, Spanish dancer, turn around, Spanish dancer, touch the ground, Spanish dancer, get out of town." (8.) Signing Autograph books: 2 Good 2 Be 4 Gotten (9.) Eating Donuts and hot chocolate in the cafeteria after First Friday mass (10.) Sister Mary St. Audrey calling her class "bold stumps" (11.) Marching out at the end of the day to "The Washington Post March" past Sister Mary Nativity who was making sure we stayed in line until we got all the way to the gate. (12.) Lining up "an arms length" apart (13.) Writing "I will not talk in school" or "I will not talk in line" hundreds of times (I had to do this CONSTANTLY) (14.) Those old wooden topped desks with the inkwells and graffiti carved into the tops. (15.) Fire drills. (16.) Instead of Girl Scouts, we were Catholic Daughters (17.) The graduation school dance - to get us started dancing, we had to find our dance partners by matching up half an animal you picked out of the girls' bowl with the boy who had picked the other half of the same animal out of the boys' bowl. There was a mix up and when I finally found my partner, it was one of the other girls! (18.) Your first pair of high heel shoes (19.) Confirmation. We had to memorize the entire Baltimore catechism by heart. For example: Why did God make you? God made me to show His goodness and to make me happy with Him in heaven. Some kids from the CCD classes held at public schools were confirmed with us. I was really mad when I found out they didn't have to memorize the book. The sisters placed them on the far aisle farthest from the bishop so if he asked questions, they wouldn't get picked to answer them. (20.) For girls, the solid blue uniforms we had before we changed to the blue plaid ones. (21.) Candlelighting ceremony at Christmas when we solemnly marched to the auditorium and sang "O, Holy Night. (22.) Watching "Francis the Talking Mule" movies starring Donald O' Connor in the auditorium on rainy days. (23.) Standard School Broadcasts with Carmen Dragon leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra (a national music education program broadcast directly into elementary classrooms) over the radio when "music appreciation" was piped into the classroom. (24.)Playing "Red Rover, Red Rover", "Mother May I" and "Dodge Ball." (25.) The Irish Fest Singing Contest and singing "Oh, the Days of the Kerry Dancers". (26.) Paul Salamunavich and the Boys' Choir and Sister Mary Michaelina and the Girls' Choir.
