The Apache Chief Mangas Coloradas
("Mangus Colorado") is featured on this block of four
attractive faux postage stamps. Mangas became Chief of the
Mimbres Apaches in 1863 following the death of his father
(also named Mangas) at the hands of Army troops at Pinos
Altos, New Mexico. The stamp was designed by
W.C. "Bill"
Porter and manufactured by The Olathe Poste.
This block
of four artistamps measures 56mm x 49.5mm (possibly attached
sheet selvage, as seen in the image above, is not included in
this measurement); each of the four stamps measures 28mm x
25mm (approximately the size of a U.S. definitive
stamp).
