This Southern Pacific Railroad
poster stamp depicts advertising for the Carriso Gorge scenic
route. The Carriso (also known as Carrizo) Gorge is located in
the high desert of eastern San Diego county, California. The
San Diego and Arizona Railway laid track through the area; the
Southern Pacific connected with this railway. The famous Goat
Canyon trestle bridge is on the route (possibly the largest
curved wooden trestle bridge in the U.S.).
