Our History

The group that was to become Spiraling Heart Coven was founded as a gay men's Pagan circle at Summer Solstice of 1991. The original core of three gay men, Rhain, Stjorm, and Coral, met at the (then-named) Gay Student Union's "men's rap group" at Florida State University. This little core of three was joined by several other gay men at various times. Nathan, Brad, Stewart and others joined occasionally in weaving the magick and bringing together the energies that would form the foundation of Spiraling Heart.

However, participation was spotty, and in 1992 Stjorm and Coral began meeting others through various free pagan classes through the Center for Participant Education (CPE) at Florida State University. Some of these people were dedicated to forming a more cohesive group, and soon Emerald Fire, Earthdancer, Phoenix, and Bright Spirit joined the Circle. Shortly thereafter we met Blackwater and DragonRising through a class we offered, "The Magickal Eclectic Thought Jam", and they joined us as well. In time Rhain drifted away, and Stjorm moved on. Now the circle was a diverse group of women and men, gay, bisexual, and straight, and the group took the name Spiraling Heart Coven.

Spiraling Heart continued to offer occasional classes or Wiccan discussion groups through CPE. Part of the Red Hills Grove, Spiraling Heart participated in joint rituals with other local Wiccan Covens. We traveled to a few Pagan gatherings. And we of course went through all the typical trials and tribulations of trying to build an intimate spiritual group.

Over the years fantastic Witches like Manna, Rayna, Canu, Zasq, Ashayna, Flowing Water, Firebringer, Falconson, Bright Spirit, Emerald Fire, and Pheonix joined us. Our members have had backgrounds and training in such diverse traditions as Georgian, Reclaiming, Feminist Dianic, the OTO, Alexandrian, and Gardnarian. Some would eventually physically move away, while disagreements or different approaches led to the departure of others. However, all left their mark on our Tradition and helped to shape the Coven we are today.

In the fall of 2000 we were pleased to join the Covenant of the Goddess, a national organization of Wiccans and Witches from many traditions. We are members of the Everglades Moon Local Council of COG.

Today we continue to weave the magick begun in 1991. We are currently a closed groups and will remain so until at least Imbolc of 2007. Despite our closed status, however, we enjoy networking with like minded folks, and are committed to the positive growth of the Covenant of the Goddess and Everglades Moon.
