I know I've submitted a fan thought already, but I have so much more to say about Douglas since then. Even though I've only met
him once, I've written to him (and got a lovely reply) and he even sent me a birthday note for my birthday because my sister
wrote him to tell him how much he meant to me! Not to mention the fact that I've read basically every piece of information or
fan thought that I can find and talked to so many people who show my love for him. I truly think Douglas is a beautiful human
being in all ways. He is not only extremely gorgeous (which I think we ALL know. :) but extremely (an understatement) talented.
Even more, he is truly one of the most sincere, kind, generous and caring actors I've ever encountered. He is pure class. Not
only does he got to such great lengths to make his fans happy, but he shows so much enthusiasm for his field of work, and, in
particular, for this show and the role of Percy. It's so refreshing to see someone so modest, sweet and charismatic enjoying
so much deserved success. I know there are rumours about him leaving the show and I would be truly devestated if I don't get
to see him perform on more time, and I think an awful lot of people will be sad beyond words to see him leave this role. But,
whatever may happen, during his time with the show, he has moved so many people in so many different ways. I hope he knows
what a wonderful person he is and I wish him all the success in the world with whatever he may do in the future.

Caught the PIMPERNEL last Sat. night (8/8/98): I and my 2 friends were delighted and so very entertained, especially by Mr.
Sills' off the cuff and so over the top admonition (so thoroughly justified). Late comers entered during his solo..We laughed, we
cried, we cheered and we were so glad we had been there on that very night. We came down from Orange County, stayed
overnight - Just to catch this performance and it was more than worth it. Mr. Sills is the find of the 90's. Handsome, talented,
funny and quick or wit...We hope to see much more of this wonderful actor. BRAVO!!!
~Mary M. Dean
Well I came all the way from Oregon to see Douglas and the new version of The Scarlet Pimpernel, and just seeing Douglas in
the role alone was well work the trip...He is truly breathtaking! It's worth going to the show over and over just to hear his sharp
ad-libs. (I'm sorry I missed the chamber pot one!) I met him outside the stage door a coule of times and he was everything
that everyone said he was: Very friendly, fun, and mostly, incredibly generous. It astounds me that this guy gives up a lot
of his time every night when he's dead exhausted, just to make people happy - I think that says more about him than any of our
ravings could! I hope he has all the best of luck!

My wife and daughter went to New York on July 24th as part of my daughter's graduation gift. We had previosly obtained tickets
for Rent and Titanic on Saturday July 25th. We wanted to see a show on Friday night and chose Scarlet Pimpernel. What an
unbelieveable surprise. This was by far the most enjoyable show of the three but it rivals Les Mis and surpasses Phantom in my
book. I sing semi-professionally and was astounded by the range control and feeling in Douglas Sills' voice. He is superb...although
I thought the mikes could have been better balanced. The feeling he put into Prayer was incredible, giving me goose bumps when he
went for and nailed the high notes after the transition. Wow. I can't wait to go back to the Big Apple to see him again. Great show.
~Bob Bruderman
I was HUGELY thrilled to meet Douglas Sills before one performance. It was actually kind of funny, because after the first
time I saw him, I thought he was SO good-looking! During the Tony Awards, I knew I had tickets for SP a few weeks later,
and I swore to my friend, "I am not leaving that theater until I touch him!" Like on the hand or something... She thought I
wouldn't have the nerve. But when I saw him on the street, just after he had finished making jokes to the crowd waiting on line
for TKTS, I ran up to him and asked for his picture...Actually, that's not really what happened...What really happened was my
friend was standing with me, and she was like CAMERA! And we followed him down the street, and she asked for his picture, and
she took the picture with his arm around me, and I got to keep my vow. Now the picture is hanging on my wall, so that I can see
it every night when I fall asleep. He is sooo cool...I think I'd faint if I ever saw him again. Anyone who wants to chat about
him, feel free to e-mail me: [email protected]!
~Lizy
My friends and I saw Scarlet Pimpernel on a school trip. I knew the score by heart already, but I didn't think much of Doug at
first, and all I could talk about was how much I loved Terrence Mann. Our seats weren't the greatest, but who cared! It was
SOOO wonderful! Doug was absolutely hilarious! One scene he did left the entire audience clapping when he exited - That's how
funny he was. At the beginning of act two, he stopped the show to talk to the people coming in late, which I though was a great
touch. My favorite song is "Prayer," and I thought Doug did a BEAUTIFUL job with it! But when he sang "She Was There" that
REALLY stole the show. I swear I had never been so impressed in my whole life. After he sang that, my friend and I looked at
each other, and we just couldn't believe how AWESOME this guy was! During the bows we all stood up and cheered, especially
for Doug. I nearly lost my voice cheering so loudly! Too bad we were on a school trip, otherwise we would have waited at the
stage door to drool over him! All I could about about the show was no Terrence Mann (although he was very good as well), but
Doug Sills and "She Was There." I was at the Tony Awards on June 7th and I was praying that The Scarlet Pimpernel would win
something, but I especially wanted Doug to win. He really puts his all into the role as Percy, and he totally deserved it. After
he sang "Into the Fire," my friends and I went crazy! We stood up and cheered until we were practically hoarse! After he didn't
win I was so upset! It took me a few days to get over it. I am SOOOO jealous of everyone who met him! I absolutely HAVE
to go back and see the show again, and meet him of course. Hopefully I won't faint or anything!
~Lauren
I was lucky enough to see (and briefly meet!!!) Douglas Sills on April 25th. I went down to NYC to meet some friends of mine
from out of town. Since this wasn't a very "planned" trip for my mom, my sister, her friend and I, we decided to get tickets for a
Saturday night performance of a show from TKTS. We got lucky, and got tickets to Pimpernel. Now, I had never seen anything
but maybe a two second clip from Pimpernel. I had recently acquired a promotional recording, but it did not have the current
cast on it. So, I had no idea what I was entering in to. My friends had seen the show earlier, and told me I would love it.
Boy, were they right! I don't think I've ever experienced anything like The Scarlet Pimpernel on Broadway. I honestly
thought it was fabulous, and that Douglas was wonderful. He is one of the funniest men on Broadway. And he is (to me) the perfect
Sir Percy, and the standard by which all other actors are judged. My mother and I were going to meet back up with my friends (who
had gone to see another show) at the Minskoff after Pimpernel. We waited around for Douglas, and when he came out, he apologized
for being late. Then, he said he had to go, because he had an appointment, but if we were willing to walk with him, he would
sign anything we had. He actually felt bad about not getting to talk to us! He signed my program, and briefly posed for a
picture with me (but I don't have a scanner =( ). I have to say, Douglas Sills is not only one of the most talented actors on
Broadway today, but one of the sweetest and most giving. I hope he is on Broadway for many years to come! Or the big
screen would be nice too!
~Beth B.
Wow, I'm just so impressed by all of the other entries in here. It's great to see that SP and Doug have reached so many people,
and especially that Doug is one of those actors who is genuinely respected and liked (loved!) for his wonderful qualities. More
than anything, I must say I envy you Kristal. How wonderful to actually have the opportunity of seeing the show so often and
talking with the cast. Tragically, I'm stuck in FL. :) But I did have the chance to go to NY the other week and I was really
impressed by the show, and esp. Doug. I've ranted and raved to everyone about how much I love him and the show, so I'll just
sum it up to this: He's an amazingly talented actor who had a **fantastic** sense of humor :) and is one of the nicest actors I
have met. Thank you Doug for sharing your talent, and for being so humble about it! :)
~Barbara
Alas, I have not had the opportunity of seeing the ever impressive and mighty Doug Sills on Broadway, but there is hope for me
yet, I hope. Anyway, although I have not SEEN the man in person, cannot I also express my deep love, at least of the storyline?
I read the book when I was in eigth grade and absolutely FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. If anyone has read The Scarlet Pimpernel
or any of the sequels, surely they would know what I am talking about. At any rate, I have a weird story about the book in that
I got a horrible grade on it, and went on a class trip in NYC to visit the museums. Anyway, on the way back, I saw the sign for
The Scarlet Pimpernel and went ABSOLUTELY BERZERK!!! Seriously, the kids on the bus with me thought that there was something
SERIOUSLY wrong with me. Anyway, two days later, I get an e-mail from a radio talk show host in Peru who had seen my posting
of my Scarlet Pimpernel book report failure and wanted information that he could compare to the musical as he was doing a review
on it. He got me really hooked on it, and then a little while later, another aspiring young fan of the book found the same web page
and e-mailed me. Apparently, as she lives in England, she was able to visit all the scenes from the movie and tell me about
them. Quite recently I found more sequels to the book which ignited my SP passion all over again, and on top of that I have
met another girl who is about as obsessed with Scarlet Pimpernel (both book and musical) as I am (we're about neck and neck,
difference being that she has seen the musical several times and has met some of the actors). At any rate, all I have to compare
my intense love of the book against is the CD and impressions of others about the play. I am, shall we say, intensely jealous
over my favorite book, and truth be told, I am still upset of the fact that Marguerite and Chauvelin were lovers once in the
musical, as it completely goes against the characters in the book as well as their very personification given to them by Baroness
Orczy. Anyway, to make an already long story short, through the voice, song and masterful lyrics, as well as from what I've heard
from others, Douglas Sills IS Sir Percy. Terrence Mann is quite good (from what I know alone) at Chauvelin, and Christine Andreas
is exquisite as Marguerite, but Douglas Sills IS the very personification of the Scarlet Pimpernel, in my own 'humble'
opinion. Were Baroness Orczy able to see him, or at least hear his voice (especially in 'Prayer'), I doubt very much that she
would disagree with me. If anyone wants to respond, my e-mail address is [email protected].
~Abby McBain
I went to see Scarlet Pimpernel for the first time over my spring break this past March. Like many others I went to see it because
I would see anything with Terrence Mann. Unfortunately, Terrence Mann was not there and his understudy was playing his role.
(Of course with my high expectations, no one was going to be able to play Chauvelin nearly half as good as Terrence Mann could!)
Needless to say I was enthralled by this wonderful person playing Percy. His voice was incredible! It captivated me and didn't
let me go till the last note! (This was the performance where he did a little improv at the beginning of the second act during
"They Seek Him Here" - e-mail me if you want more detail! [email protected]) Anyway, I went to see it again at the beginning
of the summer and was lucky enough to see both Douglas Sills (again) and Terrence Mann! I was moved by both of their
enthusiasm, spirit and passion! They gave excellent performances, beyond my expectations! In my heart, they all deserved Tony's!!
~Anne
The Scarlet Pimpernel was the fourth Broadway musical I've seen (in New York) so I realize I'm no expert....but it was the best
musical I've ever seen. The entire cast was incredible! Douglas Sills actually stopped his lines at the beginning of the second
act and started talking to a few people who were coming in late. It was incredible and hilarious!
~Kate
I have seen Doug twice in The Scarlet Pimpernel. He has a tremendous voice, and portrayal was wonderful. I left the
theatre blown away. Sink me!!
~John Bast
I was in New York recently and ran across an ad for Doug Sills. It certainly looks like the Doug Sills I roomed with in on the
third floor of the Markley dormatory at the University of Michigan during the late 1970's. Doug was an exceptionally outgoing
and polite roomate (the room was only about 10 by 12, I think). I can be reached at [email protected].
~Martin Ditkof
I just went to New York for the first time ever, and we had to make a stop at the Minskoff to see The Scarlet Pimpernel, as I
loved the show on CD, and am a huge Terrence Mann fan to begin with. I have to admit, there had been rumours in the summer
that Anthony Warlow, my all-time favourite, might play the role of Percy, so my friends were worried I might be a little
prejudiced against the man who did the role, but after seeing Douglas perform, it's impossible not to love him! His Percy is both
romantic and comedic, touching and hysterical. I've never laughed so hard at a show as I did that night! I also took the
opportunity to speak with him after the show. He had family visiting him that night, and had his dresser come down to inform
the people that he would be at least an hour before coming out. However, my friends and I were in no hurry and decided to wait
it out. It was well worth it! What a charming, sincere, and *real* person!! I have met quite a few performers, but Douglas is
definitely one of the sweetest I've ever had the pleasure of encountering. My only regret is that I made the mistake of
seeing the show my last night in New York, so I was unable to go back! I wish I lived closer to New York (like, in the same
country), so I could go see him again. I probably will never have the chance to, but "even a memory is paradise for all the
fools like me!" :-)
~Stacy
I have seen Mr. Sills in The Scarlet Pimpernel twice now and I was just *blown away* by his performance. He is one of the most
breathtaking and touching singers I have ever heard, sending chills down my spine, but at the same time he is *the* funniest
comic actor I have ever seen. His Percy was so incredibly hilarious and had me laughing non-stop. He is an incredibly
gifted man and also incredibly sweet, sincere and **gorgeous**. Meeting him at the stage door after the show was one of the best
experiences of my life!!
~Karen Blackman
I have now seen "The Scarlet Pimpernel" two times- once when it was in previews in October, and again in March. I have to say
that I was completely blown away by Douglas Sills both times. I wish that I lived closer to NYC so that I could go again, but
until the tour starts up, or until next fall, my only dose of "Pimpernel" will be through the CD (sigh....). Anyway, DS is an
incredible actor and singer, and after my second time at the play, I waited for him after the show. Unfortunately, I was in a
rush, and I was so in awe of him that I couldn't really carry on an actual conversation with him, but I hope to return soon, see
the play, and actually speak like a sane human to him!! Until then, I wish him and Pimpernel the best of luck, a continued
great season, and I hope that Doug gets a TONY!! He truly deserves it!!
~Gabrielle
Ok, my turn! I have seen Pimpernel twice now and each time Douglas' performance has amazed me. He is such an amazing performer.
Too often I see a show with either great singers or great actors, but seldomly do I see a performer who is both. Douglas has the
perfect voice and his acting is amazing. Sometimes when I see shows I find myself thinking throughout the show "Wow, so-and-so's
a great actor." Douglas is such a great actor that I don't think those things until after the performance. During the show I feel
as if he is experiencing the emotions for the first time, that he isn't acting. I had the priviledge of meeting Douglas when I saw
the show on April 14th. I was very nervous to meet him because you never know if an actor is going to want to take the time to
talk to you. Douglas was wonderful. He was so personable. He was genuinely nice. He was listened to my comments and questions
and seemed interested in what I was saying. He took the time to answer my questions, signed a personal note on my Playbill, and
posed for a picture. He is very modest, very sincere, extremely talented, and he is truly my inspiration. I hope we all have to
priviledge to see him perform for years to come because he is so very talented and such a wonderful man.
~Aimee
I, too, had the honor of meeting "The Great Douglas Sills." I must honestly say, I was skeptical when I was told that he's such
a nice guy (Sorry Kristal!). After all, too many actors let it get to their hears that their fans put them up on a platform and
treat them like gold. But Douglas is not like that - He's perfect. Despite me being tongue-tied after seeing such a great
performance, he was genuinely sincere and very personable. You could see just how happy he was about what he's doing. He
was very patient with all of the questions my friend Aimee and I fired at him and all the pictures we took with him, even though
it was late. His positive attitude and energy was contagious. You could tell by his eyes and broad smile that he was having the
time of his life. I am so in awe of him. The fact that he's an excellent actors, has great stage presence, and is so down-to-earth
as a person (not to mention gorgeous) amazes me. In short, he's perfect, both inside and out. I wish him the best. =)
~Marie
I just saw the play this weekend, and I loved it. In fact, I loved it so much that after we saw the matinee, I was able to
convince my Mom to go back for the evening show! We only got tickets by sheer luck. I fell in love with Doug Sills. What an
actor. This has always been one of my favorite books, and he just brought Percy to life like nobody else ever had, even
Anthony Andrews, and he was good. Doug just looked like he was having the time of his life on stage and he made it a very
memorable experience for me.
~Dani Biancolli
Doug, I think you are the greatest. I have seen almost everything you have been in, or at least since I have been around.
I think you are the greatest uncle anyone could have. From your productions on TV to your Broadway leads I don't really
know of anyone better. I think your next step now is to go for the big screen. Good luck. Love, Adam
~Adam Milgrom (nephew)
I have never had the privilege of seeing Mr. Sills live on stage, but from the first moment I heard him start singing on "Scarlet
Pimpernel"..I don't know...I was hooked! :0) Never having heard Mr. Sills, or SP before, I wasn't expecting either his voice or
the score to be so excellent. But his performance on the OBCR (and that vibrant energy in his "Into the Fire" performance at the
NBA halftime show) was inspiring. And, I _have_ been privileged with encountering his "personable-ness", if somewhat indirectly:
since I haven't be able to go to New York since before the opening of "Scarlet Pimpernel", a friend of mine, when she went,
actually got him to sign my birthday card! (Mind, signing a card for someone he's _never_ met who's _never_ been to the show!)
How sweet is that? *`-,--
~Lady Lisa Blakeney
I just saw this musical and it was SO awesome!! I recently saw Beauty and the Beast as well, but personally I thought The
Scarlet Pimpernel was a lot better. I was truly fascinated by the beautiful music in this play and I hopefully will be able to
see it again. Unfortunately, it was impossible to meet Doug because of the group I was with, but I truly wish I had. It will
be hard to see the play again because I don't live on the East Coast, I live in California. But I will definitely try my
hardest to travel back to NY again. I am envious of those of you who got to meet the handsome man. From what you all say, he
sounds like a nice, caring guy that would be a pleasure to meet for anyone. He truly has a beautiful voice! :) ~~<~@ ~~<~@
~Lori Brandt
I had the honor of meeting Mr. Sills after an evening performance on a very VERY cold night. It was late, and he was the last
person to leave the theatre. He must have been quite tired and cold, yet he stood there, in the freezing cold and talked to my
friend and I for quite a while. I was dumbfounded that a person that talented and captivating onstage could be so warm, friendly
and modest (I swear he blushed at our praises!) in person. He is one of the friendliest people I have ever met and is a PHENOMENAL
singer! He deserves his success, and hopefully a Tony!
~Autumn
I'm Kelly's Mom (earlier note) and I have to agree, Douglas Sills was very gracious and kind when we met him after the show. I
am constantly impressed with the actors we have met from this and other shows. Fans are always greeted with warmth and care.
I feel it's because stage actors get immediate feedback from their work and appreciate the applause and outpouring of affection
their work generates. I wish the cast of The Scarlet Pimpernel
great success with a terrific show!
~Liz
When someone says the name Douglas Sills (and it's usually me, 'round these parts!) the first thoughts that come to mind are:
talented, charming, kind, gentlemanly, handsome. He has earned my highest respect and praise - and I do not praise lightly. Bravo!
~Shari
This is a great page! Well, thanks to Kristal (the Mac Daddy, hehe!!), I also got to meet Douglas Sills in his dressing room.
My, he's tall!! I'm so ridiculous, that's the first thing I thought of!! He was fantastic in the show, and I agree that his performances
just lights up the whole show! It's hard to tear your eyes away from him, but I am a dedicated Terrence Mann fan,
so I found a way! I won't pretend it wasn't difficult!! My sister and I went up with Kristal, and he was so genuinely nice
and sweet. We all walked down together, and then he went up to my parents first and introduced himself!! My sister and I both
said later it was like we were bringing home a boyfriend or something!! It was so funny! He told my mother she had lovely
girls! Needless to say I haven't had my feet on the ground for the past week!! What a true gentleman!!
~Kelly
I was in New York for the Toy Fair the week of February 7. I saw the show 3 times that week. Each one was something special.
After the 2-15 show, I got the chance to meet Douglas. I was so impressed at how genuine and personable he was. He listened
to what I was saying and asked me questions about myself. I felt he really wanted to know about me. I hope to get back to
NYC in March and see the show a couple more times.
~Melodie
Doug Sills was wonderful when I saw him in Pimpernel back in November. It was my first experience with Broadway and he truly
made it one to remember! I did not get to meet Mr. Sills after the matinee because according to Christine Andreas: "Dougie was
asleep on the couch!" I have sent my Playbill to the theatre though in hopes that he'll return it with his signature! I hope I get
to see him in the show again and meet him someday! Sigh!
~Shovelin'
I'm never a fan, but man! Doug Sills is such an incredible performer and person! I was with a group of my school mates when
I met him. Jokingly, I invited him to see up perform Pippin at our high school. He said he would love to and he was very
serious about it. He asked us to make the arrangements. Of course he couldn't go because he also has to perform those
nights, but he asked us for our autographs! We took it as a joke and began to leave. He noticed we were going and called to us -
"Was I speaking to air?" He made sure we signed our names and underneath our names our characters in the show. He's the
sweetest actor I have ever met and we will always remember that night.
~Lilly P.
Douglas is a dear and caring person. I'm smitten, I admit it. His performance as Percy is both moving and passionate. It's
amazing to watch him perform. The first time I saw the show I didn't wait by the stage door for him, but the next time I went,
I did. He was charming, outgoing, and...I can't praise this man enough. I have since gone back to meet him again and again.
He's remembered me everytime. I now consider him a friend. He allows me to visit him in his dressing room, and always asks
how I am. I can't get enough of him or his performance. If anyone has any doubts about this man, they are truly unfounded.
He is truly a dedicated performer. And a nice man!!
~Kristal
I have seen Pimpernel three times so far and have tickets for two more performances. This is a delightful show with a brilliant
performance by Mr. Sills. I met him after the last show and found him to be one of the warmest, friendliest, most outgoing
individuals I have ever met. I had my ten year old daughter with me and he treated her like a princess! I do believe she has her
first crush. He kissed the back of her hand when we left. For a week after that, everytime she took a shower, she wrapped that
hand in a plastic baggie secured with a pony holder! Only after I convinced her that the appendage would surely rot and fall off
if she did not wash it, did she allow soap and water contact with "the spot." I wish him and the show all the success they so
richly deserve. With his fine acting, that magnificent voice, and his charm, I am sure he will do well!
~Gayle M.
I met him on January 3, after I saw this brilliant show. It has such a great sense of humor, and later on I found out that it is
largely due to Doug himself. Every time he adds something nice and funny, and gives show a new and fresh touch. Douglas makes
literal a phrase: "No two shows are ever the same". I was also absolutely amazed at how friendly he is. Over my weekend in NY
City, I had a chance to meet other actors, and that was absolutely wonderful experience. But I was extremely nicely
surprised at how friendly Doug is. He made sure to shake each person's hand, and he didn't just sign autographs, but also wrote
something nice and personal to everyone who came to talk to him. He has absolutely amazing smile which radiates at everyone
around him, and spreads a great mood just as the rays of sun spread the light. It is impossible not to be touched by this man or his
performance!!!!!! :) I wish him all the best, and I hope that he will grace the stage as Percy for a long time...
