I haven't ever seen Douglas in anything. I've recently aquired "The Scarlet Pimpernel" and "Encore" cds, and am truly impressed with the vocal ablities he has. I am impressed by the number of pictures on this website taken with fans. I hope one day I will be able to met him.
~Melanie Potter

I just saw Douglas in "Much Ado About Nothing" at the the South Coast Repetory. Excellent, excellent performance as Benedick. Nearly stole the whole show.
~Dave

I saw Douglas Sills when Scarlet Pimpernel first hit Broadway and was just blown away by his voice, presence, overall talent, and, of course, smile. I have remembered him ever since. So, when I found out he was appearing in Much Ado About Nothing, I made about and hour's drive to see him and had the trip been three times as long, it still would have been worth it. He was absolutely amazing and thoroughly charming. I even got to meet him afterwards! Even then, after a long performance, he was still charming, incredibly corteous, and after talking with him for awhile, I can affirm that he is an amazing, beautiful guy as well as actor!
~Dylan

I saw Douglas twice in the Scarlet Pimpernel last year, and I absolutely loved it and fell in love with him. He is so talented and has the most gorgeous voice. I got to see him in Much Ado About Nothing two nights ago--I was so excited! I got to be right up close to him. Though I've never gotten to meet him, I would love to someday.
~Melissa

I had the great pleasure of meeting Doug backstage after a Friday evening performance of Scarlet Pimpernel in January of 1999. He was absolutely the warmest and kindest Broadway star I had met, and that includes Kevin Kline and Richard Gere. Doug's kind heart touched me the most. I mentioned that my parents would be coming to New York to see Scarlet Pimpernel and he assured me he'd watch for them and welcome them backstage, which he did! Two years later, he is dearly missed on the broadway stage! I hope something comes up for him soon!
~Laurie J. Roy

Douglas, you were amazing in The Scarlet Pimpernel!
~Abi

Douglas Sills is without a doubt the greatest actor and singer alive.
~Kathryn

I saw Douglas Sills two years ago at the Minskoff Theatre. I thought his portrayal of the Scarlet Pimpernel was absolutely breathtaking. I only hope that someday I can do the same with my own acting.
~Megan Smith

I've seen and met Douglas Sills just once (and listened to him countless times on the OBC SP CD), but that was enough to realize what a brilliant performer he is. A friend of mine who saw and met him with me was so blown over by him, she misspelled her name for him when he was signing her program. He must have noticed because, before he signed, he said, "What's your name? You look a little catatonic!" (Almost direct quote, I think...) Anyway, to end this thing, he's a great actor/singer and, from the little I saw, a great person as well.
~Lillie

Congratulations to Mr. Sills on his Ovation Award! I hope he will continue to work successfully in California so that we may all see him often.
~Violet Marsh

I saw Doug yesterday at the 2000 Ovation Awards...and the man is a SAINT! He is the kindest, most gracious, sweetest and most endearing man I have ever met!! He was just too cool when he gave his speech. Congradulations Douglas!!
~Jess

I saw The Scarlet Pimpernel in May of 1998 and I have never been so amazed by such a show. I thought it is the best show I have ever seen on Broadway or any where else. Doug, your voice is an amazing gift and talent. Please don't ever give that up. I love the website, too. Lucy is so cute! Thanks for a great performance.
~Kevin Lutz

After being introduced to the show by a friend of mine who acts with me I was just itching to see it live. Luckily for me I have family in NYC so the next trip I made to NY I had the immense pleasure of seeing SP2 on Broadway. I had to beg my family to let me stay after but it was definitely worth it!! Douglas was kind, funny, charming, generous, and is even more handsome in person than in pictures. :) My grandmother told him all about my acting and singing, and he talked with me about theatre and the whole profesional process. He couldn't have been any more wonderful and after I had a picture of us taken he gave me one of his heart-melting smiles and said "Best of luck, Brittany! Just be patient, if you want it, things will work out." What a guy! I will forever be indebted to him for giving me encouragement when I needed it most and for being so willing to give a part of himself to his fans.
~Brittany

I got to meet Douglas 2 times - once in my Youth Training Class for Shakespeare Theater in Stratford, CT, my hometown and once when I saw him in the Scarlet Pimpernel in New Haven CT when he was on tour.
~Mike Brelsford

I saw Douglas in "The Scarlet Pimpernel" 4 times here in Los Angeles during the month of June 2000. It was truly a wonderful experience. This man is truly charismatic and passionate, with a beautiful voice that resonated throughout my body. The last performance I saw was suposedly his last performaance as The Pimpernel. I was able to get his autograph that evening and I was impressed by the way he treated his fans. He took charage immediately, organizing is and telling us not to worry, because he had no plans to go anywhere and that everyone would get an autograph and or a picture and I think their may have been around 50 of us. I hope to see him in Southern California again at the two events planned for Nov. of this year and Feb-April of 2001.
~Elaine

I'm so glad to read all the nice things people have had to say about Douglas Sills. I've only seen him twice at the Ahmanson. The first time I went without binoculars so he looked 4 inches tall. His performance, though, was glorious. I was blown away when he sang any song. But I'm really glad to say that I saw him perform his last show June 18. I came prepared and was just stunned by how much he loved it. The show was 20 minutes longer than the first time due to his ad libbing. He had us all roaring with laughter. But what touched me most was "She Was There." He closed his eyes and at every word "Had she been there all along?" he turned his head to the sides as if love and joy were spilling out of his heart. I regret to say I never met him, but I'm so glad that everyone who's met him come away feeling happier than before.
~Lynette

I just saw The Scarlet Pimpernel at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles. I was so delighted with Douglas Sills' performance that I went back to see it 7 more times. He is so terrific in this role! He manages to make Percy absolutely believable whether he is strutting like a peacock, acting like a nincompoop, motivating his friends into the courageous League, swashbuckling, agonizing over his betrayed love, baiting Chauvelin or revelling in finding Marguerite again. And on top of it all, he was so FUNNY. I laughed, I cried, I kissed 70 bucks good-bye (eight times!) and it was worth it! Douglas Sills IS Percy in the same way Michael Crawford was The Phantom of the Opera, Rex Harrison was Professor Higgins and Yul Brynner was the King of Siam. He is the life and soul of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Mazeltov!
~Doris Robin

Sweetest guy I've ever met. He's just as amusing off stage as he is on. (BTW, is performance as Percy *ROCKED*. I've never laughed so hard in my life.) He was pretty cool. We chatted a couple of minutes when he finally came outside the Ahmanson stage door to greet everyone. We got into this banter over my name though. =) BTW, for all those who are interested, Doug's going to be doing two plays in the upcoming future. One's going to be at UCLA in November, and he'll be doing Much Ado About Nothing after that.
~Jess

Douglas Sills - what's there to say about him except WOW! I have met him once. It was after one performance of SP. I had fallen in love with him from the SP commercials and had to meet him. When I did I thought I would be nervous, but I wasn't. He made me feel very comfortable. I had asked if I could have my picture taken with him. Originally he had said that his family was waiting backstage so he would only be signing autographs, but when I asked he said "Ok... wait a second. Everyone who wants a picture meet me at the SP sign." We all followed him and when my turn came he looked down at me and said "Ok, are you ready now?" I didn't know what to do. I felt like I was going to melt. He put his arm around me and held me tight. My eyes probably rolled back into my head. When we were done he signed my program and that was it. I think Douglas Sills is a brilliant performer and I hope he returns to Broadway soon.
~Holly

I saw Mr. Sills in The Scarlet Pimpernel in November of 1998. He is my all-time favorite actor/singer in the world, and I melt every time I hear "She Was There." When I heard him sing it in the theatre, I literally almost fainted. He brought tears to my eyes several times. Never before has there been a performer, and never again will anyone come close to the level of talent and charm he posesses. However, the show wasn't the best part. The best was waiting for him at the stage door. Now, I'm a 17 yr old Bway fanatic (at the time I was 15 1/2), and I'm completely obsessed with Mr. Sills' Percy. It is a masterpiece of musical theatre, but only when he does it. I was with a family I babysit for (actually I live in Chicago and they had taken me to NYC) and the five year old was asleep in the limo with the father. The mother, the 3rd grader, and the 6th grader were waiting with me...and waiting with me...and waiting...and waiting. He had guests or something, so it took a very long time. Every time the door would open, I would say...It's him. But it wasnt. Eventually, the mother said we had to go. I was on the verge of tears as I trudged melodramatically past the huge steel doors of the Minskoff. But just as we got past the doors, they opened. "Its not him, don't look," I said to myself. But I looked, and standing 3 feet away from me was Douglas Sills. We ran to him, and he talked to us for about 10 minutes. In that time, the 6th grader told him that I hope to be on Broadway someday. He gave me some great advice, and then we went to grab our things as he went to talk to others. I was so happy! But then it got better. As we walked past the group he was talking to, he looked up and called after me, "Gina!" and as I turned he said, "Good luck. Just give it a couple of years." I said thank you, and we left. As I got into the limo, I couldn't help crying. It had all been so wonderful. Then when I got home I wrote a letter thanking him for his advice. He wrote me back, and I recieved the letter the day I opened as Cinderella in Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella. It was so great. He's incredible. He's going to be the most famous performer in the world, I just know it.
~Gina

I have seen SP about 30 times (including 1 when it returned to Broadway in the Fall of 2000) and the opening and closing shows of the road company tours in New Haven. I have met Douglas lots of times. He is a total doll, and I tell everybody that.
~Deborah Cherry

When I saw Douglas Sills in the Scarlet Pimpernel on Broadway in New York I absolutely loved it. I went back 4 times and each time Douglas gave an enjoyable and unpredictable performance with all of his ad libs. I now have tickets to see it in Los Angelos. It will be sad to see Mr. Sills go. Thanks Douglas, for doing such a brilliant job!
~Amy Ra

Saw DS in Seattle in the fifth row. It was so fun to see the show again and see how he's evolved the role. Percy did alot more acting this time. I loved it. My husband teased me so much I didn't dare go to the stage door at the Paramount. Of course, I completely regret it. Thanks for all your energy and the sharing of talent as the "end" of Percy draws near, Doug. Rest up and enjoy rediscovering yourself. The best of everything with Benedick. My husband's jealous, he'd love to play Benedick, but that's what he gets for teasing me about the stage door!
~Nikki

I saw SP4 in San Francisco, but, unlike all the other Leaguers, that was the only time I saw it, and probably the only time I will see it with Douglas, because I can't go see it every day (unfortunately). Doug was really cool. My friends and I waited 1.5+ hours after the show to meet him. We got to chat with him a little bit, and he has this quirky sense of humor. It helps that Doug is fine, too!
~Alex N.

Wow, what to say to someone who has chnaged your life. I have seen Mr. Sills perform the role of Percy four times, and each time was incredible. To me, that is a true sign of a performer to have such consistant performances. Anyway, I first saw him when I was finishing my freshman year in college, and hated every minute of it. I am working on a degree in vocal performance adn hated not being able to perform. Anyway, I went to this show, and fell in love again with performing watching him perform with such obvious love for the stage. I was totally inspired and returned home to practice with gusto. I met him the first time about a three months later and watched him sign autographs for an hour and a half after doing the show. I couldn't believe that he stayed there and did that for every single person who waited. It was incredible. He spoke to me about music theory of all things, and took an active interest in my voice. I couldn't believe that he was so genuinelly concerned and interested. It changed my life. I hope that he realizes how not only his performing affected me, but also what a good person he is. I have never met anyone as kind and decent in the situation that he is in. He didn't have to stay, but he did and talked with every single person. Bravo, Mr. Sills. It was an honor and privelage to meet him, and watch him perform.
~Beth

The first time I saw him was on television on MSNBC summer of Broadway and he sang "She Was There" and "In To Fire" he took my breath away. I am so glad he is coming to LA can't wait to see him!
~Stephanie Presley

Imagine my surprise to step out of the elevator in the Hyatt and see Douglas walking toward me. I was on my way to the show across the street. I have seen dozens of shows on Broadway and beyond but no one has ever touched me as sweetly or geniunely as Douglas. He is a wonderful funny performer who excels as Pimpy.
~Helena Summers

What can one say about this man? Douglas is a great guy and not enough words can describe him whatsoever. He is a phenomenal actor, one great singer no matter what is said :), and one of the biggest sweethearts in the world! He makes you laugh, sometimes cry (good cry of course! :)), and makes your visit to the theater one of the most fun! So on behalf of myself and my fellow Doug lovers, I wholeheartedly thank God that he has been able to grace the stage now and many times in the future! Doug you're the best and we love you!
~Faith K.

I saw Douglas in the Scarlet Pimpernel on April 23, and thought he was absolutely the most talented actor I've seen yet in theatre. His voice was so powerful that it felt like it was all around you, and his acting sucked you into each scene as if you were really there in France and England, instead of in the audience observing. Bravo, Douglas!
~Jenn Allen

I saw a matinee yesterday, Mr. Sills made a joke about there being more performers/orchestra/crew members than audience, and yet the cast (especially Mr. Sills) gave 150%. I hve never been so entertained in my 22 years (the past 16 being a performer myself) than I was in the first row of the Orpheum in SF, CA. I am a lucky one to live in Sacramento, I will be seeing him atleast one more time at next weeks stop! Can we say "WOW, what a show!?"
~Andrea

Douglas Sills is such a good actor. I saw him at the last performance of "The Scarlet Pimpernel" in Seattle and he was so inspiring to me. I mean he created such a great character. After the performance I got to meet him at the stage door and he is really funny he seems like a really nice guy. Before I met him One of the stage hand guys came up to me and gave me a program that had all of the actors signatures it was just amazing I was really happy. I would love to meet him again and I must say he is a real cutie.
~Meghan

I saw the original SP and didn't get the opportunity to meet Doug then, so I was ecstatic when I learned that SP was coming to San Francisco, AND Doug was playing Percy. I just met Douglas yesterday. The first thought that came to mind was "WOW....he is HOT!" You can't describe him by any other word (well, maybe handsome, gorgeous, charismatic, etc...) The first thing he did, as he came out of the stage door, was sneeze. And you should have seen everybody's reaction to that!! "OOOOHHHH bless you!!" I don't think I've ever heard anyone get so many "bless you" 's in my life! (not like he doesn't deserve it) Doug gave the cutest little embarresed-looking smile I've ever seen. Then he went about signing everyone's books. He (in this cute little way of his) revealed to a couple of older ladies that he is Jewish, and signed some other girl's playbill. Finally it was my turn and he signed my playbill and other book that I handed him. I told him how awesome he was, and he said "Thank you, Lori." It's so sweet how he uses your name when he talk to you to make you feel more special. My mom, me, and him had a conversation about how all I could talk about after I came home from a trip to New York (I live in California) was SP. He has such a sweet, down to earth personality to match his stunning looks. He told my mom and I to write letters to the newspapers commending the musical if we enjoyed it so much. (I was thinking "anything for you!") As I was leaving, he reached out and squeezed my arm, (kinda like a hug), which made me feel like I was actually a friend of his, not just some fan, and he thanked me for taking my mom to see the show for the first time. WOW it was just such a magical day. I mean, I've seen pics of him that other fans took with him, but he is about 100 times more gorgeous in person. And you'll never really get to know what a sweet guy he is unless you meet him. I am so happy that i got such a great opportunity to meet such a spectacular person (I'm not sure if i can ever bring myself to wash the sleeve of my jacket that he touched =) ) I wish him the best of luck in the future, and LONG LIVE THE PIMPERNEL!
~Lori Brandt

I first saw Douglas Sills on the Minskoff stage in his last performance as Percy in the SP 2.0 version. I was incredibly disappointed that the show was closing because his performance inspired me. I soon checked out the SP on the Internet, found this website and was even more inspired. Reading about the critics view of SP 1.0 and Mr. Sills' rise to success was really interesting and I was hooked. On a visit to my parents in Florida in Nov. 1999 I was able to get 3 tickets to see Ms. Eder, Mr. Sills and Mr. Anderson in what were wonderful musical performances at the Kravis Center, West Palm Beach. It was a girls night out with my Mother and a family friend and we had a terrific time. The three of them just seemed to be having so much fun up on stage sharing their incredible talent with us. I was excited to learn that SP 4.0 was starting out here in CT and took all my friends to see it (I went 4 times) and even took the plunge to meet Mr. Sills for the first time. I stuck my hand out, shook his hand and--once he looked up at me--only had the guts to blurt out my first name and ask him to sign my Playbill. Then we each said something benign and then I was walking away. It happened so fast and I was so afraid of saying something stupid that I hardly said anything at all. I do remember this however, he not only has a great voice, he has incredibly warm eyes. Don't miss a chance to see Mr. Sills perform--I'm certain he will only continue to inspire those around him.
~Lynn G.

I find it so hard to believe that DS is 3000 miles away. I can't remember a time when I have enjoyed a perfomer as much as I enjoy him. I feel like I have lost something very dear to me and I don't even know him. I wish for him all the best that life has to offer!
~Barbara Ullman

Ohhhh...I can't believe it! I actually got to meet him! I have been obsessed with Douglas Sills from the very first time I heard a CD of The Scarlet Pimpernel! I just got to meet him! Not even a week ago! I went to The Scarlett Pimpernel when it was in Minneapolis and I couldn't believe it. I almost started crying when I realized where I was. After the show my best friend Erin and I met him at the stage door. It was amazing I got a picture with him and I still haven't washed the sweater I was wearing! He had his arm around me! Okay I'm done now!
~Samantha

About two months ago, I heard an instrumental version of Into the Fire and decided I had to give the musical a try. I bought the OBC version and quickly fell in love with it. And on the 18th of March, I was fortunate enough to see the show in St. Paul. It was absolutely wonderful and hilarious! I've already had my own SP adventure. After the show, I waited by the stage door to get autographs of the cast. I got three of the leads, then I waited to get Douglas Sills'. And waited, and waited and waited. Finally, this security guard came back. I was sure he was going to tell us that Doug wasn't coming out. Instead, he said that Doug would see the fifteen or so of us waiting in his dressing room! Aaahh!! We walked backstage, and there, sitting in his dressing room was this gorgeous man in a terry robe. Oh, wow. He told us that he was getting sketched and that's why he wasn't coming out. He said he had to look straight forward for the sketch, so he wasn't ignoring us, but we could hand him the stuff we wanted signed. When it was my turn, I told him how excited I was when I saw he would be playing Percy, and how much I've gotten into the show since I heard one of the songs, and how I dragged my mom and sister there. Oh, 'twas wonderful. It may sound like it, but I didn't gush too much.
~Cara Kienert

I actually am a huge Terrence Mann fan, but I think that there is room at the top. :) Through reading the stuff in this page, I see him in a whole new light. I like Douglas Sills. He was great when I saw him in The Scarlet Pimpernel (original cast). He had a way with the audience that I admire. I wish that he were continuing the tour until next year so that I could see him, in what I consider to be HIS role, but I know he has his own stuff to attend to.
~Jessie

Doug made my whole trip to New York (Nov. 22ish 1998)! I was all by myself and I got lucky at the TKTS booth in Times Squares and ended up with a 5th row seat to SP at the Minskoff. I was enthralled! The night was magical and I couldn't get over the extraordinary talent of Douglas Sills' voice--what a range. Ironically, I was on my way to Paris, where I proceeded to make a cake of myself in the Place de la Concorde by re-enacting my favorite sword fighting scenes--I kept saying to my husband, "OK you be Chauvelin and I'll be Percy." We got home from Paris and found out we were pregant and even today at 7 months, our baby boy loves the Scarlet Pimpernel cast recording--apparently, my little boy was with me in the 5th row. We can hardly wait to see Douglas in the national tour in seattle, we're in the 7th row. Douglas, you are an extraordinary individual!
~Nikki

Yesterday I was lucky enough to see Douglas at the Shubert Theater in New Haven, as Percy. I was totally enthralled by this mans presence, voice and acting ability. What a gift! The play seemed like it was over in minutes, as not only myself but the entire audiance were entertained, and mesmerized by the play and especially Douglas. I am only hoping I can again experience something like this again, something that made a regular Saturday afternoon become so special.
~Laura Cupo

I am thrilled to finally have the opportunity to see Douglas Sills perform. We have season tickets to the Shubert, NH saw him twice, not once, felt compelled to go myself the second night because the show was fantastic. Wish I had the money to have seen him a third time--I think at 54 I am becoming a groupie!
~Janet Jamilkowski

I told Douglas that a perfect nickname for him is: "AN AMERICAN TREASURE." And he sure is, right? To my way of thinking, Douglas is the latter-day Jolson. The great Al Jolson could captivate, command, and "spark" an audience like no one else on the stage on Broadway from 1911 to 1940! Douglas does what Jolson used to do. Douglas just "erupts" on the stage like a living, breathing "VOLCANO." Douglas doesn't just play to an audience, he "makes love to it!" God love this brilliant, sensitive, performer. I'm so thrilled that there is a website that honors this wonderful man. I know that I can speak for my wife and 3 young daughters, for they love him too. Anybody who doesn't like Douglas Sills probably also doesn't like ice cream!
~Joe Caroselli

I was privileged to see Douglas in SP three times (old show twice, new show once). I love most musicals, but SP is my now all-time favorite. I have even arranged a visit to my family in Minnesota so I could be there when he is performing in the SP tour!
~Julie

After one of the last performances that Douglas was in for "The Scarlet Pimpernel" my best friend and I wandered around the city. About an 1 after the show we were walking back past the theatre. We noticed that a crowd was still there. I looked back and Douglas was there -- looking very handsome and being very generous in signing autographs for a group of teenagers. I asked my friend if she wanted an autograph (as Douglas is her favorite, she said yes. I knew she wouldn't ask so we waited while he finished with the other group. I then approached him for an autograph giving my friend's name -- which I stated was not my own. He called my friend over (who was standing on the sidelines) and gave her a hug. What a wonderful moment!
~Beth

I was lucky enough to see the "Scarlet Pimpernel" in NYC quite by accident. Douglas Sills provided one of the most memorable musical theater experiences for me. I understand he is coming to SF and I will be delighted to see him in the show once again.
~Nancy Stern

I met Douglas on April 28, 1999 at the Minskoff Theater after the show that night, and also a week later on May 5 1999. He is the sweetest most wonderful actor I have ever met. I would love to get the chance to meet him again someday. I saw the Scarlet Pimpernel 6 times, everytime but two with Douglas and nobody can play the role like he can.
~Catherine Jones

Met Mr. Sills at Kennedy Center while he was appearing in "Into the Woods." We were supposed to go to dinner between shows on the day they closed. But Mr. Sondheim was seeing the cast between performances. Mr. Sills introduced me to Mr. Sondheim at that time. Douglas seems genuinely interested in what his fans think of his work. We have kept in touch since we met. But we still haven't been able to get out to dinner. He says that's still on the agenda---next time.
~L. J. Summers

I've seen him in the first 2 versions of the Scarlet Pimpernel and he was superb!! I liked Anthony Andrews so much as Percy from the movie and I never thought I'd like anyone anyone better, but Douglas Sills was really wonderful! I liked the 2nd version a lot better than the 1st one. I'm excited that he is doing Percy again for several shows "on the road," but am disappointed that he will not be in North Carolina.
~Denise McCorkle

Douglas Sills - The one true quad-threat: acting, singing, dancing, loveable guy! I can't beleive they haven't made you a constellation in the sky. You are a real hero to many of us. I met Doug back in the fall of 1997 after my friend Kay Story had the pleasure of working with him in Pimpernel. I watched Kay, but I couldn't help falling head over heels for Doug. He has the most ease and energy when he performs. But I think what I appreciated more than his outstanding performances night after night, was his generosity when I approached him. I ran into him before one of his shows and he chatted with me, not about Douglas Sills but about myself and my future. I couldn't believe how polite and kind he was to take interest in today's potential musical theater actors. So Doug, I want you to know how much I think about you and wait for the time when I can see you again. You are more than an inspiration.
~Mike Wasileski

I saw "The Scarlet Pimpernel" on May 28, 1999, and it was (and remains) undoubtedly the greatest Broadway production I have ever seen. The entire cast was spectacular. I was absolutely enthralled by Douglas Sills. I have never actually met him, but I say wholeheartedly that to meet him would be a blessing, to say the least. In the unfortunate event that this does not occur, I want him to know how highly I regard him. "Douglas, when you sing, I feel as though I am hearing a divine voice from the heavens. You have such a phenomenal voice that when you combine it with the heartfelt emotion you so clearly express in your songs, you reach my soul in a way that no words can describe. You have filled me with such musical inspiration that I have resolved to continue singing, which I hold so dear to my heart, for the rest of my life. I do this not solely out of personal enjoyment, but because I have seen how you move people, how you bring them joy, and I realize that is the! greatest gift any one human being can give to another. Thank you for enlightening me. You are my vocal idol, and I will continue to strive to sing like you - one of my dreams. You are truly an amazing person I hope you realize this. Thank you - for everything you have done for me.
~Mike

I live in Manhattan and was *~*blessed*~* to see D.S. in Pimpernel at the Minskoff (brought back great memories of seeing Annie there in the 70s!) three times. I couldn't wait for my friend Liz to come visit because I KNEW she would love the play. However, I seem to live under a ROCK and had no idea that the show was closed, recast and moved to the Neil Simon Theatre. In fact, I only realized it when I bee-lined for the Minskoff and what to my wondering eyes DIDN'T appear... When we arrived at the new theater (wishful thinking that they just moved to a new venue)and discovered that the show had been recast, I was CRESTFALLEN. I had been telling Liz all morning about how Doug MADE the play, and I was so excited for her to experience THE Pimpernel (this was Liz's first Broadway play!). The play was still wonderful and well presented, but I felt like she didn't really see "THE." Then I found this website, and lo and behold- DOUG IS TOURING!!! YAHOO!! We've been grinning ear to ear at Liz's great fortune!
~Gayle

I hadn't seen a live Broadway show in a while, and this was the first place we went to when my family and I visited New York. I'd been so used to seeing community theater back home (where people give standing ovations because their friends are in it). Douglas' performance was *so amazing* (well, they were all pretty good, but still!), I still melt when I listen to just the recordings of 'Scarlet Pimpernel'. When it was time for the curtain call, he brought the entire audience to its feet. Then my sister reminded me that we have rarely been to a B'way show where that happened. Must've been the star that did it!
~Kate

I just wanted to say that I love your site. I also wanted to say that I met Douglas too. He was very warm and appreciative to all his fans. Keep up the good work!!
~Christa Wisneski

Douglas is the nicest actor I've ever met. I'm a really huge fan of him and his work if I could I would travel the world just to see him in a play or anything.

I've never seen him before but I've heard his voice. His voice alone can send me into tears. I live in a different continent and am told that I'll only be able to watch the show in 2003. I've been such a big fan and my biggest regret is that I won't be able to watch and hear this remarkable person in person.
~Lili

Doug has the MOST AMAZING voice I have ever heard. When I saw Pimpernel Doug was out. I was so upset. Byran Batt was great too. Doug puts so much emotion into his voice that you feel like flying with him on the high notes. They are so pure and clear. I have hear many marvlous singers, but Doug is for surely one of the best that I have ever heard. One of my dreams is to see him in Les Mis (my all time favorite musical). I am dying to hear him as Marius sing "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" and "A Little Fall of Rain." I can feel and hear the heart wrenching emotions even now. WOW! What a performance. Good luck Douglas, in all that you do. You are truly treasure to behold.
~Susan

I had to do six laps in twelve minutes for soccer. I had done four, but I didn't think I could do the last two. Out of no where, I heard Doug's voice singing, "Into the Fire". when he got to the part about being strong and pushing your fears away, I was inspired to run again. Unfortunately, I didn't make the run, but I wanted to thank Doug, because I I know he was out there somewhere, singing just for me. Thank you Doug, from the bottom of my heart.
~Luci

I love Douglas Sills! He is my idol. When I sat 7th row center and he sang "She was there" I almost cried, it was like he was singing to me. His performance was fabulous. If I ever meet him again I will get up the nerve to tell him how much I like him (I have a school girl crush on him, but that makes sense because I am a school girl). He is the bomb.
~Babydoll

Douglas Sills is a terrific actor.he outshines many others and is head and toes above the rest. I saw the scarlet pimpernel twice and was excited both times! I wish I could've been lucky like my friend who saw it eight times!
~Rachel

I saw the commercial and I said to my Dad "I have to see that". And I did, two times to be exact. I always had the dream to be on Broadway, but never actually had the courage to do anything about it. Then I saw Douglas Sills in The Scarlet Pimpernel and I was so terribly impressed and inspired by his talent. I now have the courage to go after my dream. I just needed that extra push to get into gear. Just wanted to say thanks for doing what you are doing. Thank you so very much!
~Nicole

I think that Douglas Sills is an incredible singer and actor. I loved every minute of his performance as Percy. Also, he was so sweet when I met him backstage at the Minskoff 2 days before closing night. I love to listen to his singing! I wish him a lot of luck in the future. I want him to know that I will always be a fan of his.
~Amanda

Douglas is the most talented actor I have ever seen in my entire life. It's amazing how night after night he goes out on the stage and gives himself to the audience so freely. Anyone with his ability should have been on Broadway long ago and I wish him all the best of luck in the future. And thank the theatre gods that he didn't decide to be a lawyer.
~Joanne

Just wanted to say Good Luck (or Break a leg if you're superstitious!) to Douglas for the last few days of SP - and mostly for his next project whatever it may be. Any chance of a visit to the UK would be even better!!!
~Pat

I went to NY on a school trip, and went to see Scarlet Pimpernel kinda by default, because I had seen the other choices before. I was excited about seeing the show because I had heard great things about it, but nothing could have prepared me for what I saw. I have never seen a performer like Douglas Sills. He completely captivated me, as he did the entire audience. His presence and character, not to mention his beautiful voice, make him stand out onstage unlike anyone else. I want so much to meet him sometime. I want to write more, but words are really failing me in describing his sheer talent and magnetism. I love you Douglas!
~Corinna

My daughter was 10 on May 6th. When I asked her what she wanted for her birthday present she replied that she wanted to see The Scarlet Pimpernel and she wanted to meet Douglas Sills. Not exactly the request I thought I'd be getting, but it turned out to be an opportunity for me to see the show again too. So, we went to last Tuesday's performance and although it was my 4th time, it just gets better and better. But my greatest enjoyment Tuesday was watching the wonder that gave way to the smile on my daughter's face from the time we entered the theater to the time we left. Kris listens to my CD so she knew the songs and at times sang along, which any other time I would have discouraged, but not Tuesday. I wish that we could have waited for Douglas, but it was a school night and she was out too late already. She did send her playbill and a photo up for his autograph and proudly showed everyone in school on Wednesday. The magic of Douglas Sills his talent is appreciated by all ages, and he appreciates his fans as well. What a wonderful man! I wish him only happiness and success and I will be following his career, along with the rest of my family and his countless other fans. He is wonderful! Bravo!!
~Sharon

I do not kmow if this will be a comment. I just hope Douglas Sills will read these thoughts one day: Mr. Sills, do you actually know what a talent you have? A great actor with an amazing voice! That is not your only talent. You have one of the biggest gifts in the world: YOU make people HAPPY. They are watching you and your hillarious PERCY. I watched you a lot from one of the many seats at the Minskoff Theater. I could not stop laughing and sometimes I even cried. I forget all my sorrows and problems the night I can see you on stage. Then I am just happy. Thank you!
~Sabrina

I traveled up from Virginia in December just to see Douglas Sills in TSP, only to discover that he was gone on vacation. I am coming back to New York on April 16th to try to see him again---please, someone, tell me he doesn't have prior commitments elsewhere! I do SO want to see him in person!
~Debbi

Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said about Douglas? We all love him to no end, and, will continue to do so forever. Sadly, though, I have no been able to see him perform as Percy and probably won't, which I'm still coping with, and, maybe, eventually, can come to terms with. But, I can tell you some of my stuff. When I first heard him sing, I was at my friend's house and we were listening to the CD . . . "Prayer", in fact. I was blown away. Mind you, I had not heard Doug or Terry sing before, and, because of hearing them in SP, I have become such a dedicated fan. I've gone out and purchased almost anything I can find about either of them. And, I've written them both. Back in Feb., I wrote Doug a letter during a long vacation I had off from school, and, told him how much he has truly touched my life. I got a reply back in 12 days, with an autographed picture with a little note! I was so excited! It sits, framed, on my dresser, and is the last thing I see before I go to bed at night. I cherish it with my entire being. I wrote him a really long letter the other day, after a truly heartwrenching battle with family problems, and, he was my "savior". After I learned of it all, I locked myself in my room and turned on my CD and listened to "Prayer" about 50 times and looked at his picture and cried. But, I could truly connect myself to him in the way that he sang that song, although, our situations were very different. And, knowing how much he has touched so many others, I just see him as such an idolistic figure, and shall never let that go. Thank you, Doug, for having such warmth and kindness and for being the man whom which is truly wonderful and generous.
~Josie

I've already put in a thought on this page, but I have another. I went to see the show for my second time on March 4, and my mom arranged for me to meet Douglas Sills before the show because he is my hero. He came down from the elevator to meet me, and I was in heaven. We chatted for about five minutes and he signed my book and took two pictures with me. I'd never met an actor so dedicated to his fans. He is the sweetest person. Once again, Douglas an incredible performance. I want to go back a third time!
~Amy L.

I've met a lot of talented people, but I don't think I've ever spoken with a more TRULY wonderful person than Douglas Sills! He's one of the few people in the world who totally deserves all of the fame and recognition that he gets! Countless times, I've walked through the breezeway of the Minskoff 45 minutes or an hour after the curtain comes down, and he's still there chatting and signing autographs! And he really seems to enjoy it! But nothing illustrates his beauty any more than the letter he wrote to his fans, when he decided not to leave the show on March 7! Completely above and beyond anything any of us would have asked for, I think! I cried, when I read it. Find me ONE more Broadway star who would even THINK of doing that! He's an amazing human being!
~Holli

What can I say about Douglas? I have to say, I've yet to see him in the Scarlet Pimpernel but I plan on being at his last. I was quite happy to hear that he pushed back the date of his last show so now I'm pretty sure I'll get to be there. Even though I've never seen him perform I have talked to him twice and he couldn't have been more sweet! A couple of my friends know how much I adore him and for Valentine's Day they went around and got all of my favorite Broadway actors to record a little message to me. I had no clue they were doing this! Douglas, or Dougie as I like to call him even though he "only respondes to certain family members who call him that" sent one of the cutest messages! He kept calling me Dydy to match my calling him Dougie, I guess, and sang a line from Into the Fire. Overall he is just an amazing man with more talent than most people dream of! I wish him all the best after his departure from The Scarlet Pimpernel!
~Dyann

I have have had the wonderful opportunity to see the Scarlet Pimpernel on several occassions. The old show many times and the new show once. I have especially enjoyed Mr. Sills and the joi de vivre that he brings to the role. I love the concept of good triumphing over bad or wrong. To that end I have managed to read most of the other other Pimpernel books Baroness Orczy wrote about this dashing hero who was the role model for many other super heros in later years. Mr. Sills does epitomize the character of the Pimpernel which the Baroness wrote about!
~Esther

I think that Douglas is one of the most talented and generous people that I know. I am honored to know him.
~Sutgump

What draws me to this show time and time again is the natural, true portrayal of Percy by Douglas Sills. I watched him after the February 7 matinee as he spoke with the fans. He seemed genuine. Tired yet tireless, so much like the character, honest and true, caring and giving. This is why the part works for him. Treat yourself to the movie starring Anthony Andrews, Jane Seymour, and Ian McClellan (sp). This was my first true love of the story. Thank you, Douglas, for breathing life into the Broadway version. Wish I could add the Braodway Show to my video library.
~Austin

I know I've submitted a few other thoughts, but that was a while back...now I've been fortunate enough to go back to NYC (from Canada, where I live) to see the new version of Pimpernel twice and it is just incredible, probably the best and most special theatrical experience of my life. Douglas is even MORE incredible! He's just a brilliant performer in all ways and such a wonderful person he is full of class and grace, such a truly kind and sincere person who gives an AWFUL lot to a great number of people. Douglas, thanks for touching so many lives (especially mine! :-) with your performances, talent, dedication, and overwhelming generosity and kindness. You are a beautiful person in all ways and greatly loved by MANY. I wish Douglas happiness and success in every aspect of his life he certainly deserves it!
~Karen Blackman

Musical theatre has long been my passion, but unfortunately I live far from New York City, and I have rarely had the chance to see Broadway shows. Although I have never been lucky enough to see Douglas Sills perform in The Scarlet Pimpernel, I did write him a fan letter, and just recently (to my surprise) I actually got a response! Not only was there the autographed photo I had requested there was also a personal letter enclosed, in which Doug congratulated me on my acceptance to a top American university. I was absolutely startled to have received a response at all, not to mention one so gracious and personable. He is so worthy of admiration and respect -- and I do hope that I get to see him one day!
~Nicole

I saw "The Scarlet Pimpernel" in March of '98. What a super show!! Douglas Sills is GREAT!! I bought the poster that was signed by the cast(Actors for AIDS charity). I had it framed in the RED and it's hanging in my foyer where everyone that comes in my house can see Percy's eyes. In the spring we're returning to NYC and plan to see it again. I certainly hope Mr. Sills is still part ofthe cast!!!
~Carol Ann Henicle

I saw the "The Scarlet Pimpernel" in April 98, and I am still in heaven. Douglas gave the most captivating performance, and he made the show so enjoyable and fun. I know he will go far, and I look forward to seeing him in his next performance, wherever that may be. Doug's replacement certainly will have his work cut out for him, because there is only one Percy, as far as I'm concerned.
