Extracurricular Activities:

AMSA CO-FOUNDER/PRESIDENT/VICE PRESIDENT, SABA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE CHAPTER. 2004-2005.
Coordinates day-to-day activities of chapter, along with current President, including recruiting, activism, promotion, community service and medical education projects.

  • Represented medical school at AMSA�s 2005 National Convention; abstract presented for poster presentation in NIH-sponsored event.
  • Organizes seminars, meetings and speaks on various topics to promote national health care and knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Awarded a number of grants for local community and medical enrichment workshops.
  • Earned a grant for "Rising Chapter Award" for community service.
  • One of four finalists for AMSA�s Global AIDS Fellowship for the 50,000-member organization.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT, SABA SCHOOL OF MEDICINE. 8/04-4/05.
Oversees screening of local and medical school population to compare prevalence of Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) on Saba.

  • Designs and conducts survey for HHT screening with limited budget.
  • Works on SPSS to compile and compare data on prospective patients.
  • Attended HHT conference in Fall 2004.
  • Three abstracts accepted for poster presentations at two conferences, including Lyon, France.

Professional Experience:

ASSISTANT NEWS PRODUCER, USA TODAY.COM. 7/00-8/02.
Performed day-to-day duties associated with managing the multimedia presentation of top news stories for a leading news web site. Ensured maximum coverage of breaking news using various rich media, including streaming audio and video.

  • Works cooperatively with newspaper to report the latest news and researching graphics.
  • Produced and distributed media to a number of platforms.
  • Specialized in health, science and foreign affairs.
  • Developed reputation for having a strong work ethic and assisting in all areas of the web site.

Recent Community Service:

Thanksgiving Day 2006-Assisted in preparing food for community meal at local high school.

Spring-Summer 2005-Works in Soup Kitchen for at least 3 hours per week, in Waterville, Maine. We serve meals to approximately 100-140 meals each Friday.

Winter 2005-Coordinated sexual education seminar at Saba Comprehensive High School, Saba, Netherlands Antilles.

Winter 2005-Directed nutrition seminar at Saba Comprehensive High School, Saba, Netherlands Antilles.

Winter 2005-Awarded AMSA grants for Sex Education project at Saba schools and for medical education on Complementary Therapies.

Winter 2005-Works with Saba Women�s Association and Student Government to coordinate funding, community service and medical education projects.

Winter 2005-Coordinates activities of Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN), including meetings, budget, election of officers and research presentations.

-Designer and web master of personal web site; coordinates several online discussion groups on health and current events.
-Selected as Teaching Assistant in Neuroscience and Anatomy courses.
-Awarded two scholarships to attend chiropractic college: The Presidential Scholarship, which is based on all-around performance in community and as a student. The Merit Scholarship is based on overall GPA.
-Earned 4.00 GPA for Master's Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, while working near full-time hours.
