The Lowdown:
Luna Sea's works are very good at setting moods. For instance, Gravity is a very melancholic song, a mood that is accomplished through the effective use of delay and reverb, not to mention the excellent composition of instruments. Needless to say, Luna Sea rules when it comes to setting the mood. Sugizo is also a very talented guitarist (the most talented in Japan, some say). Overall, Ryuichi is also a good vocalist (much better than Toshi of X Japan, IMO) and is the only singer I've heard whose voice doesn't give up on him during live performances.
As always, good things come to an end. Luna Sea disbanded in 1999. Ryuichi, Sugizo and J have pursued their own musical careers, and I'd say Sugizo's stuff is probably the best (no surprise there). Still, most of their works are good, and stand testament to their high musical standards and skill.
