Some nice updates this time: A new version of Sonic the Fighters Neo has been uploaded with all the movelists completed. That, and my first coloured picture in a long time - Xed vs. Kel! Thanks to the technician who tossed out that crappy SiS video card and gave me a Radeon instead :D
J-MP3 hasn't been changed. I don't have enough webspace to upload Rainy ai no Shirabe (bah) so I'll be reducing the quality a bit so that it will fit onto the server. To be uploaded tomorrow.
OK, now what's this "SvC is chaotic" crap?
The location beta test for SNK vs. Capcom: SvC Chaos started at NeoGeoLand in Osaka last week. I've been watching it closely, and seeing the screenshots and the occasional video that emerges from the test.
And I must say, I'm rather disappointed.
Before I go any further, here's the complete roster:
- SNK: Kyo, Iori, Mai, Terry, Ryo, Earthquake, Shiki, Choi, Mr. Karate, Kasumi, Genjuro, Kim, Goenitz (midboss), Geese (midboss), Shin Mr. Karate (final boss).
- Capcom: Ryu, Ken, Chun-li, Guile, Hugo, Tessa, Gouki, Balrog, M.Bison, Sagat, Vega, Dark Ken (midboss), Demitri (midboss), Dan (midboss), Shin Gouki (final boss).
The roster may seem nondescript at first. But consider this: Did you notice the number of "shotos" (Fireball/uppercut characters) in this game? Let's count them: Iori, Ryo, Genjuro, Mr. Karate, Shin Mr. Karate, Ryu, Ken, Gouki, Dan, Dark Ken, Demitri, Shin Gouki. That's 13 characters out of a roster of 30. This obviously kills a lot of the variety. And reports are coming in that because there is no "roll" move ala KOF, the shotos are ruling the day.
Furthermore - I get the feeling that Playmore could have done so much more with this roster. Aside from a few novel choices (Demitri, Shiki, Earthquake, Goenitz, Tessa, Hugo), the roster is mostly mainstays. The Capcom side contains the entire Street Fighter 2 cast except Zangief and Blanka. And where are the new generation of characters from both sides? Capcom vs. SNK 2 paid tribute to those characters with Rock, Kyosuke, Yun, Maki, and the like. Yet here they are sparsely represented (Hugo and Shiki only).
Maybe I'll end up enjoying this game, I don't know. But until then, I'm remaining skeptical.
