Aargh! You say, not Snape! But think about it. Hasn't it happened to you, during your school years? There was one teacher that you really, really didn't want to get and then bam! You were in his/her class and you thought you would probably die! And then you felt really good when you got through the year and you didn't??
My grandfather says, "Overcoming adversity shapes your character." That means that if you can learn to be tough and take it instead of talking back or whining, you'll be a better person. So I think that is one reason the character of Snape exists. He will make Harry stronger and not wimpy. Also, I think he is kids worst nightmare of a teacher! I have been lucky and most of my teachers were very good, but most kids fear that they will get a Snape for a teacher!

Some of the really great Snape sites are gone now, but I would like to just mention them here:Snape is God, Potions Class, Snake in the Grass, and Nasubionna's Tribute to Snape. I know we grow up and we grow away, but these were great sites in their day and ought to be remembered.
