Jim and I believe in keeping "our boys" indoors at all times, because we feel that it will most likely increase not only the quality of their lives, but their life spans as well. Living in the city can impose many hazards on a free roaming cat: cars, (being hit by them or getting injured or killed if they venture under the hood and the unsuspecting car owner attempts to start it) other animals, and those who harbour a strong dislike for felines are just a few. In addition to our always knowing where they are, we can also take comfort in the fact that they aren't annoying the heck out of our neighbours. ;o)
Simon was a stray that we acquired when we first moved in together and he immediately adjusted to becoming a strictly indoor cat.
Garfunkle, who was also a stray, is a big baby who tends to behave more like a dog and hates to let us out of his sight.
Both cats are extremely spoiled, since we consider them to be fur-covered versions of children. They have a plethora of toys, but their favourites happen to be those little pelt-covered mice--although there's always a rather high turnover rate, because the boys are forever chewing them up or losing them.
The nifty scratching post on the left was a thoughtful gift from our friends Trish and Iain when they were moving away. Being declawed, their cat didn't use it, but both of our boys certainly do. The carpet on the vertical posts has already been replaced once, due to Garf's obsessive sharpening, and is in dire need of replacement yet again. Oh well, better that than the furniture!! They both have favourite sleeping spots, such as the wicker laundry basket pictured at the top of the page, an old doll cradle that belonged to my mother when she was a child (pictured to the left of the scratching post in the photo directly above), and a store-bought pet bed much like the image below. Of course, that said, neither one of them is above hogging our bed or favourite spots on the couch when the mood suits them.
To learn more about Simon (and why wouldn't you want to ;o), click the sleepy-head on the right and he will escort you to his page.
To learn more about Garfunkle (and again, who could resist ;o), click the sleepy-head on the left and he will happily take you to his page.
Although I've made all of my own cat-backgrounds using photos of our ever-photogenic felines, I have absolutely no idea how to make the animated cat gifs and accessories you see here, so the majority of them are from,
Just click on the dandy button above to take yourself there!
