2002 MILITARY MAIL CAMPAIGN
The Altar/Rosary Society has begun the 2001 Military Mail Campaign.
This is our 14th year. For the last 6 years the Basilica has had the
distinction of being the #1 CHURCH and the #1 CATHOLIC PARTICIPANT
in the nation! This distinction is given to the organization that
collects the most Christmas cards for our military.
For the past 3 years we have collected nearly 9,000 cards each year.
In 1998 we collected over 15,000 cards.
We are fortunate to have the National AmVets Assoc. who donate
thousands of blank cards each year. These cards are distributed to
local schools and individuals to be signed. Many who sign a card
add a personal note and receive replys from grateful military personnel.
These cards are then collected, bound and sent to abase in N.C.
They are then mixed with cards from other organizations allover the
country and sent to military personnel stationed in this country and
allover the world.
When we send the cards to N.C. we must include a check totalling
approximately .20 cents for each card to cover distribution costs
from the base. Last year we solicited $1,108.64 to include with
the cards and the Altar/Rosary Society paid $65.00 to mail the boxes
of cards to N.C.
This is why we need your support. This year MORE THAN EVER, we
have thousands of military stationed allover the world who may be
in harm's way and need to know we support them in our thoughts and
prayers. Please take the time to sign a Christmas card and/or
make a donation to support this essential cause.
Please read the bulletin for specific instructions on how to address
your cards.
