Project HOPE

Project H.O.P.E which is a hands-on service learning project aimed at restoration and beautification of the school, as well as strengthening community ties, is now in full effect. We are off to a great start as we currently have raised $1,500.00 towards the project! As the students of Saint Francis begin preparations and planning we would like to encourage the participation of all the families of the students. The more dedication and participation you may contribute can only enhance our project.

Project H.O.P.E is an on going project that will be completed with gardens around the outskirts of the school, along with sustainable painted doorways. The students in Dr. DeFiores Environmental Sociology class will be creating lesson plans in order to share with the students of Saint Michaels the proper environmental standards of Pennsylvania regarding the implementation of a school garden and other improvements.

In order to complete this project with the greatest success we need all participants, including the students of Saint Francis and Saint Michaels, the faculty, staff and parents to be enthusiastic about our goals. If you have any ties to local community stores and shops that may be willing to offer donations or discounts you can help by making the appropriate contacts. If you have any special artistic or gardening talents that will be able to assist the students in the project you can sign up to help organize several groups. All those who are willing to help participate, Ms. Michelle Chandler and Dr. DeFiore will be in close contact. This is a community project that will be beneficial for the students if we can all contribute.

This project follows the goals of Franciscan higher learning. The Reverence for all life and for the goodness of all humanity: As children of God, we are brothers and sisters to each other, to all humanity, and to all Gods creatures. In a spirit of charity, we care for and support each other, helping bind the wounds of those who suffer and bearing one anothers burdens. We also care for the earth which is our home and work to protect and preserve it for future generations.
