Getting Started

  1. Read though the entire three page process.  Be sure that you have enough time to get everything together (backup, payment, packaging, shipping, etc.) before making an appointment.  If you are "late" for the appointment your upgrade may be delayed.
  2. Set up an appointment.  Send an email to [email protected].  Please use a subject like "ePods32 Upgrade for John Doe".  In body of the email please specify the week that you would like to have your ePods upgraded (i.e. the week of March 5th) .  An appointment means that the machine will be delivered to me on Monday through Friday of that week.  If you don't specify a week, I will assume that you want the first available appointment.  My schedule will allow me to do about 5 or 6 upgrades per week.  I seriously doubt that there will ever be a significant backlog, but you never know.  I will confirm the appointment and send you my shipping address.
  3. Backup any files or information that you want to keep.  I need to remove the battery to do the upgrade.  All information stored on the RAMDISK will be lost.  This will be the same as doing a hard reset.
  4. Remove all the accessories from the ePods.  This includes the stylus, modem, compact flash cards, network cards etc.  I don't need any of this to do the upgrade.  Leave the battery installed.
  5. Place the ePods in its original box.  Remove all extra documentation and accessories from the box.  Do not pack the power supply.  I have extras of everything I need to test the machine.
  6. Get the packaging for your ePods in order.  You will have to have this determined to calculate shipping costs.  I highly recommend that you double box the ePods.  This is one of the best ways to ship something.  IMHO, the way that Fingerhut and Salton shipped the ePods was criminal.  Click here for an example of double boxing.
  7. Determine how you want to pay for the shipping.   I would prefer to use UPS for the all of the shipping.  You can set up an internet account with UPS and they will bill your credit card.
If you have an UPS account, create a shipping label for the trip to me and another for the trip back.  I don't care how fast of service that you use as long as it gets to me during the week of your appointment.  Be sure to insure the package for what you believe the ePods is worth.  UPS automatically insures the package for up to $100 if you don't buy insurance.  I would pick a value of about $400.
If you do not want to set up an UPS account, use the shipping cost calculator at the UPS web site to determine the return shipping cost.  My zip code is 48309 (the calculator needs this info).  Determine the cost based on how you want me to ship the machine back to you (ground, 2nd day, etc.).  Include at least $400 worth of insurance.  The shipping cost calculator will determine how much you need to add to the $50.00 upgrade fee.
  8. Determine how you will pay for the service.  I will accept either PayPal or Money Order.  If you are including a return shipping label, the amount is $50.  If not, the cost is $50 plus the cost of return shipping.  Make sure that you have return shipping handled to avoid any delays.
  9. Ship the ePods to me.  Email me the tracking number so I can try to have someone home to accept the package.  Be sure to include your return address, any special instructions, money order* and return shipping label*.
