Galaxy was born in our bedroom and for the rest of his life that is where he slept. He was quite the most special dog I have had the pleasure of owning. His deep sincere nature, with a sense of humour, the alpha dog at home but in the most quiet way. A thorough gentleman and quite an incredible show dog and sire.
At the start of his career he won BOB at the Whippet Club Trophy Show. Mrs Barbara Long, hound specialist, now living in South Africa from England, wrote the following critique:
"My BOB was a young male with a wonderful future both in the show ring and at stud. So beautifully balanced, no exaggeration, everything fitting neatly into each other. Beautiful masculine head and expression with intelligent eyes. Lovely clean neck into well laid shoulders. Topline depth and spring of rib are there, maturity can only add more. Firm well angulated hind quarters which drive him effortlessly around the ring. My congratulations to his handler, breeder, what a beauty!"
Barbara Long's prediction for his future could not have been more true. Galaxy's show career spanned 5 years where he was top Whippet Dog in South Africa for this time.
Used selectively at stud Galaxy sired 12 Champions and his progeny have produced many show champions, BIS and Group Winners. He is still well represented in the ring today with top winners who have his name predominantly in their pedigrees.
We miss him terribly, his wonderful companionship and character - a truly special dog. However, we have his progeny running around us still and for this we are very grateful. |
