Below are some tips which I consider very helpful.

• Put the most important content at the top of the page.
• Remember to set the background color if a background image is used. If the text is white, it would be hard to read against the white default background while the background image is loading. I have seen this happen on several websites I have visited.
• Keep the width of long banners and graphics below 500-550 pixels so that it will fit horizontally on browsers that have lower monitor resolutions.
• The web page should load within 30-60 seconds.
