| Ao Dai are a Vietnamese tradition dress and it is also know as "long dress or long tunic". Ao Dai was developed in the early 1900s. Over time, it changed from long tunic to short tunic. Ao Dai are considered graceful and beauty yet demure. Ao Dai are full-length dress from neck to foot and inside are loose trouser. The dress is split down from the waist down from the back and front of the dress. However the man?s dress is shorter to knee-length and looser fitting. These dresses are colorful from pastel to bright colors. Ao Dai show grace, beauty and elegance to women. Nowadays high school girls in Vietnam are required to wear white Ao Dai as a uniform. White display elegance, purity, and young. Ao Dai are mostly worn during Vietnamese holidays, weddings, important event, festival and etc. Today Ao Dai are use as school uniforms and daily clothing in Vietnam. For worship, people tend to wear Ao Dai with little or no designs. The temple and church are considered simple and do not need flashy designs to taint their purity and innocence. For marriage, the bride usually wears beautiful "Ao Dai" in red or pink. The designs of the "Ao Dai" for a matrimonial ceremony often display mythical figures such as the dragon and phoenix and Chinese prints. Lately, "Ao Dai" is gaining its fame among young Vietnamese woman. Because of the Vietnamese open market to Western cultures, young designers took another level in designing "Ao Dai". They used the customary patterns of the dress and applied with modern-day designs, textures, and fabrics creating a new and original. Though, "Ao Dai" is still unique and prominent to Vietnamese people and also Westerners. |
