Biography

Born April 14, 1977; Sarah Michelle Gellar had began to master entertaining audiences by the age of four.  While eating at a local restaurant in her hometown of Manhattan, she was discovered by an agent. Soon after she was on the starring in her film debut, "An Invasion of Privacy".  In addition to having been one of the two regular hostesses of the TV talk show, "Girl Talk," Sarah is a veteran of TV, film, and stage.

Although seemingly being a lucky child to experience such fame, Gellar went through quite tragic experiences at an early age. Due to her father leaving while she had been only a child, her mother tried eagerly to make ends meet. Fortunately, Sarah Michelle won a scholarship to a private school, the High School for the Performing Arts. Although, the opportunity did come as a cost due to lack of prosperity, as she quotes of her terrible time at the school, "They knew I had no money and constantly reminded me of the fact."

With her past experiences behind her, Sarah Michelle managed to score herself a role in the television series, " All My Children". She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 1994 for her role as Kendall Hart, the daughter from hell, however being unsuccessful in winning the award. A year later, she was once again nominated, instead in the "Younger Leading Actress category". This time she did not come home empty handed like the year before, and instead Gellar had prevailed in being the winner of the category. Although she had given the producers 6 months notice of her decision to leave the show, she made her decision public the day after the Emmy win. After 2 ½ years, Sarah left the set of AMC and relocated to California to seek new fame in films or TV.

1996 was the year in which Sarah Michelle won the lead role as Buffy Summers, in the new series called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", which was based on a former film of the same name.

From "I Know What You Did Last Summer", in which she won a Blockbuster award in the Best Supporting Actress category, to her impish role in "Cruel Intentions", 1997 proved to be a a year of complete success for Gellar. Beside these roles she also starred in the films "Scream 2" and "Simply Irresistible".

On August 12th, 1999, Sarah signed a contract with Maybelline to become the first celebrity spokeswoman since Linda Carter in the late 70's, and can be seen in television and print advertising for the cosmetics company.

Proving to be a big hit all across the world and nation, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", which can be seen on the UPN network,  is still being filmed, for its sixth consecutive season, with Sarah Michelle Gellar still starring as the lead role of Buffy Summers.
