Nataliya and Seth's Lewes, Delaware Vacation

<= BACK Saturday, September 14, 2002 NEXT =>

We woke up early once again for no good reason. It was vacation and we really had no plans for the day and no place to rush off to.

When we showed up for the breakfast, we found another amazing breakfast prepared by Mrs. Stevenson. I had the best french toast I've ever had! It was so good that I asked for the recipe!

It was at breakfast we met Bea from D.C. Not much to really say here except that she was here to relax, go biking, go to the beach. For some reason, though, I thought she said her name was Bo. (Hey, I remembered it started with "B", so that was pretty good for me!) She mentioned that she wanted to go to the Rehoboth Outlets, so we gave her our unused coupon book. She was delighted.

At breakfast, we were told that the beach was a short distance from the B&B , so we thought we'd go there for a while before driving around. They even offered to lend us their beach chairs so we could sit at the beach! (I'm telling you - these people were so nice to us!! When I asked how to get to the beach, Mr. Stevenson said to drive straight down 2nd Avenue until you can't go any further - and that's exactly what we did!

On the way to the beach, we decided to stop by "The Soap Fairy". (I'm showing a lot of restraint right now by not making fun of the name or the web site!) They make their own soap and sell it (both at stores and on-line) as well as distribute to local vendors. It wasn't busy there, so the woman working there gave us a "tour" - opening the door to the small factory area and telling us the soap-making process. We were sort-of impressed, so we bought half a dozen bars of soap. (Not that I need more soap - I'm still using the bars I bought during the millenium scare! I had no idea if those soap machines were all Y2K-compliant!)

We continued down the road to the beach. We stayed there for about an hour, sitting in the chairs for a while as I kept busy burying Nataliya's left foot in a pile of damp sand. We also walked by the water until Nataliya tried to push me into the water I had to restrain her. It was very tempting to just throw her into the water, but I didn't have the heart to do so. (We didn't have any towels and I didn't want saltwater eating away at my leather seats in the "new" car. Oh, and the fact that she claims she can't swim.)

Does it get any better than this? Excuse me, Nataliya, but your hand is on my ass... So you want to play, eh?

Then we drove back to Rehoboth, and we stopped at WalMart. After buying more things that we really don't need, we went off looking for decent place to eat. One place we passed on the highway looked promising but they weren't open. I spotted a woman cleaning the windows of this closed place and she suggested this other restaurant "just down the road". We found the restaurant, but we also found ourselves at Rehoboth Beach.

The area by the beach is filled with stores - with quite a few of them selling salt water taffy and fudge... We decided to forget that restaurant and explore around until we found one to our liking. Nataliya spotted a Thai restaurant we decided on eating Thai food. I found parking and we walked towards the beach and to the restaurant.

On the way, I stopped off for a small order of spicy wings. As my order was being prepared, I walked to the Thai restaurant, "Seaside Thai Cuisine", with Nataliya. Nataliya asked if it would be okay for me to bring my order of wings inside as she ate her Thai food and they said it would be okay. I told Nataliya I'd eat them outside because I thought it would be kind of rude, but that I'd probably be right outside. As she sat down to make her lunch selection, I went back to get my order of wings.

As I was bringing the wings back to the Thai restaurant, it started to rain a little. No longer concerned about how rude it might be, I brought the wings inside as Nataliya was waiting for her order. Nataliya said that the food was very good, so as I was finishing my wings, I ordered a lunch plate for myself.

After lunch, the rain had let up, leaving high humidity in its wake. We started to walk on the boardwalk and check out the small shops in the area. We didn't buy anything, but had fun looking.

Edie's Ice Cream store, where Edy's ice cream is exclusively sold. I'm serious!! We went back to Lewes and after I parked the car by the B&B, we walked into town where we had a very nice Italian dinner at "La Rosa Negra". After stopping by "Edie's Ice Cream",where Nataliya decided to finally try a block of chocolate fudge, we headed towards the Lewes Beach for a late night stroll. We ended up walking about a mile down the shore line before turning around and heading back. It was very relaxing and very romantic!

By this time, however, we were exhausted but decided that because it was our last night in Lewes, we should go out for a few drinks. We headed to Irish Eyes and got a seat by the docks. I was able to stay awake long enough to finish one bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade, but I actually dozed off as Nataliya waited for 20 minutes for the waitress to appear so we could get a bill. Meanwhile, here I am head on my arm on top of the table with a single bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade. Now I know I have a higher tolerance than that, but I'm not sure other people believed that to be the case! I was so tired!! Apparently, there was a wedding reception going on inside this place and the waitress had her hands full. (Someone really went all out renting out half of this restaurant/bar... I guess McDonalds was unavailable. ;) Anyway, once the bill was paid, the difficult task came onto Nataliya to convince me to get up and go back to the B&B to get some much-needed sleep. After all, tomorrow would be a busy day!

If all went according to plan, hopefully I'd get lucky tomorrow! (I know what you're thinking and shame on you! We're gonna stop off at Atlantic City on the way back home!)
