Nataliya and Seth's La Jolla Vacation
We got up late and decided to stop off for a quick bite at In-N-Out, a
hamburger place where you can order a burger pretty much how you like
it. That's assuming the person puts the information into the cash
register! Jared & I got burgers, but ordering them a bit of a
challenge. When the cashier finally got in Jared's order, I decided
that ordering a burger my way would take too long. I just said,
"make mine the same". Nataliya didn't partake in the
burger-breakfast, so she waited outside and missed the ordering fun.
I was surprised how difficult the ordering was, considering how small
their menu was.
Then we went up to Soledad for a spectacular view of La Jolla and San
Diego. On the very top is a large cross which stood as a war memorial
to fallen Americans whose families paid to put their names around it.
It stands on one of the higher peaks in La Jolla and you can see for miles
in all directions.
Then we went to La Jolla Cove and took some shots of one natural
bridge by the water. We walked over to the "children's
pool" where the harbor seals were hanging out. it was originally
intended to be an area for children to go, having built a wall to
minimize the intensity of the ocean waves. However, some pesky seals
thought it was better suited for them. Oh well!
From there, we drove to Pacific Beach and walked to the end of one of
the piers where people were fishing. (Must be nice to go fishing and
actually eat the fish you catch from the harbor by your home...)
Then we went to Balboa Park. This is the San Diego version of NY's Central Park,
but a lot smaller. There's a lot of things to see here. They
had International cottages in an area known as House of Pacific Relations, which were little areas designated for
certain countries. You can find out information about the country,
see displays and read literature, and usually you could get a free
food sample. They were looking for donations, and we gave a handful
of the houses a donation.
There was a large pavilion where they featured a large organ (called Spreckels Organ Pavilion) and someone was playing while we were there. Not much else to say here...
We walked by the Bea Evenson Fountain, and then made our way to
the Botanical Garden which featured trees, plants and herbs of
all sorts from all over the world.
For dinner, we went to Los Olos where we enjoyed an excellent Mexican
fare. If only they had this sort of Mexican food back home!
We headed back to Jared's place afterwards, listening to the soft
sounds of Classic Rock on 101.5, WKGB.
(KGB!? Yikes!)
Finally, we relaxed and watched Finding Nemo with Jared on his PC.
