| The Three Sisters ----------------- The Three Sisters subsector is named after the three royal families that control most of the local systems (through trade pacts or direct control). Working together for mutual support, they act as a sort of counter balance to the cartel families of the Herkamer subsector (to whom they have a great enmity towards, because of trade and territory disputes). Being home to the best ship building facilities, the royal families boast some of the biggest and most up-to-date fleets in the sector. The noble elite dominate the upper levels of society, making laws, collecting taxes, and running companies, while the lower classes do all the grunt work. This is not to say the lower classes are treated badly. In fact, they are often highly regarded for there craftmanship. As a whole, life for any class is rather well off and peaceful. Granted, this is not always the case; there are those that think that the peasents are there only to serve and this has, on occasion, lead to small uprisings, but these are far from the norm. External politics tend to flow with the trade routes, mostly looking to extend trade and bring in more profits. This has, of course, set then in direct conflict with the Cartels, and has even lead to outright war with them in the past. In the senate there is always a balancing act of protecting and expanding their trade routes and their rights with blocking anything the Cartels might be wanting to do. Being one of the two most powerful factions and boasting a booming economy gives them plenty to entice the other factions to their causes. As a rather peaceful subsector, the forces of the royals are not the most battle hardened, but do bost some of the most up to date equipment. As service tends to put one outside the social ladder, troops are well motivated. One of the highest honors is to be sellected for duty as one of the royal guards. This unit is responsible for the protection of the comander (often royalty) on the battle field. It is made up from those soldiers that have proven themselves beyond the call of duty, and is a way to gain status which carries over after the tour of duty. Many of the royal guard have been adopted into a royal family and gone on to become great leaders. The last major war was in M39. The Great Trade Wars were started when the Cartels of Herkamer attacked Pharis. They sited ancient trade agreements and treaties, but they were truly after the vast fuel supply. Pharis is the largest producer of vehicle fuel for the entire sector. The war ended badly for the royals with the loss of the planet, leaving a burning vengeance in their hearts, but for the most part things have been peaceful until now. Things have been relatively quiet in the recent past, with nothing more than the occasional scuffle with pirates or the Cartels, but as of late the pirates have been geting worse. Worse yet, it looks like the pirates have been geting help from Chaos marauders. The raids have gotten so bad that suplies have had to be rationed on many planets. This has caused some riots on a few of the lesser planets. |
